Retro cycling club in Sydney

Does anyone know if there is a club in Sydney for retro/vintage racing bike enthusiasts/addicts? Any regular rides, swap meets etc?

If not, who would be interested in participating in one?

Sounds like their focus maybe prior to your interests. There is also the Vintage Cycle Club of Victoria, Editor: Charlie Farren 71 Tivoli Rd, South Yarra Vic.

There is no retro cycling club as such. There is however quite a number of Sydney based people who collect/restore bikes from varying eras. Whereabouts in Sydney are you based?

I am probably a bit too far from you but if you are ever over in the Parramatta area, feel free to call in and say hi. More often than not there is usually bike people calling in here for coffee so you may get to meet a few other bike nuts.

Hi Roger,

I belong to Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club, and we have quite a few riders who are into the older collectible bikes. It's not the core function of the club, but we are looking to organise a monthly restorer's ride, starting next month. Probably just a coffee run initially, and from then we'll see.

No need to be a club member, and we don't care what vintage your bike is from, but we feel that if you've got a nice retro bike you should be showing it off among like minded riders.

I hope to post some more details in the following days.

With all of this interest, I think we need a Sydney Steelies club. Coffee, rides, swap meets, jerseys (that say "never throw your leg over anything under 18 years old"), mascot called Rusty. First meeting at Karens place. I nominate rogerabbit as president.

Problem solved. Next on "to do" list, sort out Zimbabwe's economy.

Sounds good to me. First meeting my place and if you can guess what the mystery bolts and parts are (have a large container of them) I will let you leave with a freebie bike part.

Most Sat mornings there is usually someone here with me mucking around with bikes and parts. This Sat I am actually having tricycle day. I have one to rebuild and also have a friend who rides a trike that needs some modifications done on it.

So as long as I know in advance (in case of sleep in) you are welcome to call by.

It's probably about time I heaved my aging bulk over a nice sturdy vintage steel frame & went for a bit of a pedal to see if I can still hold some balance.

I guess I can make the 140k drive to the big smoke to see if I can still ride.

I'm in (kid commitments pending). How about Homebush bay. The coffee cart at the armoury does a nice soy milk latte and there is plenty of room on the wharf for a show and shine. If someone doesn't want to stay they can can still get a nice ride out of the outing.

I'd be keen as well.......although my 2007 Giant isn't exactly vintage. I'm keen to start collecting vintage bikes but the two i have aren't exactly rideable as yet.

i would be keen as well. family will probably get in the way but i have my hand half raised. although if it is at homebush i could possibly bring my boys as well. they love to ride, but their bikes aren't quiet "retro" just their dad.

Doesnt matter if the kids bikes arent retro they will catch the bug later on I am sure.

If my nephew is around on the day, I will bring him along.

Ok, we'll be in it. Post a date (a little in advance) and we'll have trip down from the bush north of Newcastle for the day. Might even persuade a couple of folks from Erko to front up (hint hint...)

A suggestion would be making it a Sunday when Waratah Vets are racing at the Tennis Centre nextdoor. That way I can drag Jim and some of the older guys over after the race.

I just looked at the Waratahs site. The next date they are at Homebush is:

10 Aug 2008 08:00 and 09:00am Graded Criterium

After this date they are not back there until October. I am not sure if this is too soon for everyone?
