I fitted a 6650 Ultegra Compact to a customer's 9000-specced bike for a trip to France a few weeks ago (due to unavailability of compact rings for the 9000 crank). She brought the bike back in today to have the crank swapped back, and I asked her if the 10-sp crank had any effect with the 11-sp. chain. She said it worked perfectly the entire time.Duck! wrote:They said the same thing ten years ago when 10-speed was The New Thing, and it quickly became apparent that there's more compatibilty than Shimano would like us to believe. Heck, they're even marketing certain stuff as 9/10-sp. compatible. Sure there's some bits that are specific, but cranks tend to not be too fussy.Xplora wrote:Had a look online, Shimano's compatibility chart says 9000 doesn't go with anything else, and saw a few forum comments that said the new teeth might be susceptible to excessive misshifts with the 10 speed chain as it shifts. Then again... if you wanted to get a new crank now and move to 11 speed by Christmas, that might not be a bad idea.

not many shops stocking them yet. Found some at http://www.westbrookcycles.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; though and they were pretty well priced.Xplora wrote:Didn't realise they had the aero brakes available yet? I've tried trawling google but I can't seem to come up with anything so hoping the combined wisdom on here can guide me.

6700 shifters won't work with the 6800 deraillers (well, at least the rear one won't)AndyRevill wrote:So my Domane came with mostly 6700 Ultegra but the cranks are non-series. I'm thinking about upgrading them to Ultegra and it seems logical (to me at least ) that if I do that I may as well go for the latest 6800 variant. I know these are aimed at 11 speed but is there any reason they won't work with 6700 shifters?

you'll also have to check that your wheel hub is capable of holding an 11 speed cassette (they are wider)
re your crank - you'll have to check your bottom bracket/frame are capable of running a 24mm spindle BB that is the correct width for the shimano cranks

There is no problem mixing the 6800 crank with a different series of shifters/derailleurs/etc.

Sorry, my bad. I used cranks as in plural of crank. In my mind a bike has two cranks if the definition of a crank is "an arm attached at right angles to a rotating shaft" there's one on each side. I should more correctly have used crankset, then I could have used "upgrade it". Won't do it again, honest and thanks for trying to help.jasonc wrote:
