Waiting on test results - lymphoma
Postby TraceyG » Fri Aug 09, 2013 11:43 am
Hopefully I'll get some answers next Tuesday but the specialist has already indicated that the results we are waiting on may be inconclusive and then it will be a full biopsy. I guess that will keep me off the bike for a bit longer again.
Lymphoma is the most treatable of cancers, if that is what I have, but having lost four friends to cancer in the last 12 months, it's a little challenging to maintain a positive outlook all the time.

My niece has t cell lymphoblastic lymphoma at the moment ... she was 7 when diagnosed, apparently it was very aggressive. They only spotted it as her body was slightly darker above the heart ( where it had clamped itself around the main artery )... after a very scary first month they got it to break up. She is 8 months into treatment and has just started back at school this week . She still has 18 months of chemo to go but the hardest part is now over.

Take all the strength you need from us Tracey, if it means a week off the bike for me it'll be worth it.

Stay positive, I hope that everything works out for you. I just wish that cancer was not as common as it is these days, having lost my dad to cancer in June.

Funny you should say that. We had a sick horse (yes, I know a horse) who had been losing weight for months but feeding more hadn't reversed the decline. He had symptoms that the vet said could possibly be lymphoma (which we were extremely upset about). A battery of tests were run and then further tests and more tests which ended up coming back negative for lymphoma. It turned out to be chronic peritonitis (unknown cause although we suspect it was the caterpillars. Yup, that's right, caterpillars) which was treated by months and months of twice-daily antibiotics.TraceyG wrote:80% certain is NOT lymphoma. Yay. Still to have node removed for further biopsy to confirm and also try and find out cause of other symptoms. Best possible news without getting 100% negative. Thank you to everyone for your support and for sharing your experiences.
Maybe you have peritonitis caused by accidentally ingesting a particular species of caterpillar?
(Hope the doctors work out what you have soon and that it is easily treatable)

That is fantastic news, I just hope that the biopsy removes the 20% chance.TraceyG wrote:80% certain is NOT lymphoma. Yay. Glad to hear it. Reading this thread gave me shivers, I went through that same waiting game 7-8 years ago (negative, and my symptoms apart from nodes going up turned out to be thyroid disease).TraceyG wrote:80% certain is NOT lymphoma. I'm glad its looking a bit less scary but be extra kind to yourself

Even if the diagnosis was more grim, staying positive and living like it will all work out OK is the best
approach. This is much easier to say than to do, of course.
But you're probably starting way ahead of the statistically average patient the docs see, and so can
justify expecting the best results. Just focus on all the positives you've got going for you. And all
the good wishes we can send.

Plus cleared to get back on the bike! OMGosh - I don't know if my legs will know what has hit them tomorrow morning. I am going to have to ease back in and build up after having ridden a massive 20km in the last six weeks!
Unfortunately we still don't know the cause of my symptoms but investigations are ongoing. At least the worst case scenario is out of the picture.
