hey thanks, Slowcoach. it's a 1988 repco vertex team bike. handbuilt in australia with 531c.

elantra, rear cluster deserves an upgrade, but the rest will stay. new tyres on the list, and it now has a yellow concor saddle.
i tried selling it a couple of weeks ago, but i can't. i think i'd regret it. thanks for the kind words last riverloop, steve.

Nice photo MS, looks like a Police pursuit bike doing a sting on passes over the solid lines =D Nice vintage effect with that mossy tree too.

Yeah I was only 10% slower (in best neutral wind conditions) on the 23km commute, but effort level feels like 50% more, which is what I wanted in resistance to step up from last fortnight on my previous heavy winter commuter Felt MP. I really loved riding the Felt, making my new Wilier Rossano Alfine 8 winter bike redundant following a dry early winter that I didn't use it, so have now put the Wilier up for sale. The Nexus 7 twist shift on the Felt MP is OK, the Nexus 8 on the Fat Sand Bike is much nicer, but the trigger shift Alfine 8 of the Wilier is nicest, all bikes brand new so comparing wear/tear apples for apples.

How do you find the Selle SMP Stratos? It looks quite short -- is that an optical illusion? I use a Forma (no padding) and am finding it extremely comfortable. I wonder whether the padding would get in the way? What has your experience been?

Well I am a pretty big lad (for a cyclist) and I have not had any problems with the fit of the SMP. I used to slide around a lot of my old seat, the contours of the SMP has me in a much more stable position. Padding wise, I think it could do with a little less.

Full build done by me. Trek Madone 6.5 frame (2013), Ultegra 6800/6810 groupset, Fulcrum Racing Zeros, Stem/Bars/Saddle off my old Giant. Steerer to be cut down in a few weeks once I've had a new bike fit.

Tried a larger frame and it was too big. Most shops actually put me on something smaller based on my height and inseam

Short legs, long arms = above setup. Longer stem going on soon which will bring the seat back in a bit. Plus Trek don't make a seatcap with more then 20mm setback.

I'm looking at the very nice looking Trek and thinking, "somethings missing here". It's like the seat stays are missing a cross piece to join them, then "ohh, dohh". No rear brakes. I assume they are between, or just below, the chain stays. I believe I can see them. I did read the new Scott Solace has them located in the same place.
