How long does it normally take for your butt to become accustomed a lesser padded saddle?
I've gone from a Bontragger RXL saddle to a Fizik Antares, after 7 1/2 hrs total so far spent on it it's still a touch uncomfortable and I get a little numb in certain undisclosed area's after a long 3hr ride

Probably the ride after you've said enough is enough and you've already decided to change it.jamesn184 wrote:How long does it normally take for your butt to become accustomed a lesser padded saddle?
I've never experienced the numbness, so that concerns me a little. I occasionally find my saddle a little uncomfortable, but it's quickly forgotten. Some people say a good pair of nicks is essential for a comfortable ride.

time for a new saddle, it prob wont get much better than that after 7 hours you know if it suits you.
Try one with a perineum cutout next time, i have one of SMP style saddles, took me a long time and plenty of test rides to find a good one for me.
Saddles are individual things what works for one rider wont work for another

I have 2 good pair of bib shorts and when I had my original saddle on I could ride over 6hrs and didn't get any real discomfort

Would losing roughly 15kg make any real difference down the track?

The last saddle I owned that needed breaking-in was a Brooks. These days modern saddles should be comfy right off, with a little time to get to know the different feel.
Otherwise - it ain't gonna work.

I just put my old saddle back on and just saw that it was actually 153mm wide and that was fitted to my butt.. so maybe a 143mm is to narrow?

Have you tried tweaking the position in tiny increments, one at a time with an hours ride between?
EDIT...
Yep, sounds likely if you're getting the crotch cleaver effect with the new one. Measure your sitbone width to be sure.

Yeah the Bontragger RL saddle I got with the bike was measured with my butt imprint and its width is 154 (not 153)Mulger bill wrote:Have you tried tweaking the position in tiny increments, one at a time with an hours ride between?

the only slight relief I got with the Fizik saddle was sitting right back on it which is ok going up hills for me but when I'm on the flat I like to sit further forward to engage the different muscles etc and with the RL saddle I could sit further forward and feel no discomfort

Sure sounds like the Fizik will never get on with your bum.

I find width and shape of the nose of a saddle to be a highly under-rated measurement when it comes to buying a saddle. All you can find before buying one is the width at the widest point and the length, its not enough info.
