You still have to find the bike first to check the paint dots to confirm the bike is yours... Or the police have to realise that the bike is stolen and know that there is a possibility that the bike owner has put the dots on their bike so they actually check for the dots and don't just chuck the bike in the stolen pile with the hundreds of others...
