My story has been posted on Brisbane Times (Sydney Morning Herald also, I think).

Good to see its getting some media coverage Cowled, lets hope this puts the fire up the negligent police who attended and the inept driver who hit you!

Craig, I just thought I pass on my appreciation of you speaking out at the totally inadequate punishment of the driver by the Queensland Police. Too often these incidents are swept under the carpet. Best of luck and a speedy recovery.

I hope you get a good result from this. A shocking accident made worse by the law enforcement processes going wrong.

Hope you mend well - and fingers crossed the media attention will bring about lasting change.

Hi Craig, great to see you are not putting up with the shoddy behaviour from the police. If you find that you are getting nowhere with the Police, the next step is the Crime & Misconduct Commission. Fabricating your statement is a serious matter & the officer who did it should be in a whole world of trouble.

From my experience the law enforcement process worked in the same manner as it always does.

Yep, Kudos to you for taking this further. What a different world it would be if there were uniform national laws stipulating minimum safe passing distance. Add to this the knowledge that evidence of transgressions may be found within video footage ... Roads are a whole lot safer. It might take a while, but your action may prove to be quite important in making the roads safer for us cyclists.

At least they found in your favour. When I was hit (in similar fashion) quite a number of years ago, I was deemed to be passing on the inside. The vehicle U turned, pulled up along side me then turned left - Nice huh!

Best of luck with this, and mend well!

+1 ^^^

This story has aggravated me to no end... I'm glad you weren't more seriously hurt (Not that a compound fracture is exactly surface busing :? ), and were able to get back home to your family.

Not that its about me... but where's the justice? I got (and I'm sure also have gotten) the same punishment - 1 demerit point (and $180 fine) for driving 53km/h in a 50 zone... apparently the our infringements are worthy of equal sanctioning... go figure.

FWIW on ninemsn.com.au also:

Hope you recover well. Terrible incident and poor police work. Seems like they just wanted to close the chapter rapidly and didn't think you would follow up this much.

Sorry to read about the accident and glad that you are OK despite the injuries. I'm actually not surprised about the disinterest from the police to be honest as a friend and I experienced similar about 18 months ago. In the end we wrote to the Police Commissioner as it was the only way we could think of challenging the ineptitude of the attending police officer. I would like to say the outcome was positive and maybe behind closed doors it achieved something but the fact that the driver wasn't charged still bugs us no end. Hope you heal quickly and are back on your bike as soon as you are ready.

Just saw the channel 9 report.

Good on you Graig. Looks like your youtube clip is forcing action as the news media services jump all over it. It's just a pity most comments online are from bogans and rednecks.
