lbs closing down in burwood vic

Postby scratchman » Sun Aug 25, 2013 1:02 pm

just a heads up for anyone interested, this shop is closing, owner is retiring.
had a look through today, bought an old club racer style frame with nice
lined lugs and stronglight cranks.
they will let you have a fossick around, there's lots of stuff, don't think he's ever
thrown anything out, they assured me nothing would be trashed, shop shuts
it's doors at the end of September.
and a disclaimer....I have no connection to these people, in fact never been in there
before today.
shop is on burwood highway near deakin univ campass

Ah, the Bennetswood Cycles shop. That guy is a true hoarder, all sorts of wierd and wonderful bikes and gear in there.

no, I don't mind, I paid $100, so at this stage things aren't real cheap, but give it a couple of weeks........

Was actually in the area (on business) on Monday. So thought I'd pop down for a look. Lots of stuff (everywhere, had to climb over bikes and junk). Everything was $300!! Crazy prices. Was excited when I first arrived but left depressed. No goodies for me :(

Is that the "In Gear Bike Shop" that's closing?

Yes.
The owner is a true hoarder, reluctant to throw anything away.
Told me he had filled a skip with 3 tonnes of steel junk that was not repairable.
Tried to buy a couple of items, but wanted to keep or the price not realistic.
Worth a visit to see the chaotic layout. :)

Went in this afternoon and found some goodies as the prices were quite right... except for a rusty Repco Olympic 12 (87?) offered for $150 had to pass on that. Not long ago bought the same bike in pristine condition but with a huge frame size off ebay for $75. Found a Gary Fischer Hoo koo e doo? (lol can't remember the model..) MTB minus wheels and broken RD for $20 and a couple of black anodised Araya MTB wheels for about $10. Also found a 1979 Shimano Deore RD for next to nothing...never seen one like that before...hope to go back Saturday with a torch to look for more. Saturday is the last day!
