Swooping magpie pix
Postby TraceyG » Wed Sep 11, 2013 2:52 pm
Here are a couple of still shots
I am trying to edit the video and will upload if/when I succeed but these pix are pretty dramatic!
Edit - not sure what has happened with the first pic...on my PC and in Photobucket it shows the entire bird but here it cuts off its head.
Any suggestions for fixing this welcomed.

Or reduce the image size you upload.
Anyway, a remarkably evil looking bird!

Thanks. Right click and open in new tab shows him in all his evil glory.

The forum software will crop large images to the right on smaller monitors, comes up fine on my 22"WS.TraceyG wrote:Edit - not sure what has happened with the first pic...on my PC and in Photobucket it shows the entire bird but here it cuts off its head.

800x600px seems to give good results for 90% of users.
Hope this helps.

LOL. Actually, the ripples on the water were caused by an extremely strong headwind. I was struggling to hit 18kmh. But with the tailwind going home I was cruising at 45kmh.hannos wrote:You're moving so fast you're leaving ripples on the water in the second pic.

The wide angle of the GoPro lens gives a fish-eye effect that is exaggerating the size of birds beak andWinstow wrote: hadn't realized how long and narrow their beak is
head (relative to its body etc.,.). So it's not as fearsome as the picture suggests, but still big enough
to do major damage to eyes, ears etc.,.
GoPro have just released the GoPro studio App, which has an option to make a correction for the
fish-eye distortion.
Cheers

I'd love to see Go Pro footage of you trying to persuade a magpie to be less of a magpie, Dave!DaveOZ wrote:Great pics. I actually love magpies and try my best to talk to them while they attack. I think it helps.....

Yea I often "talk" to magpies when I encounter them. You'll understand if I don't post a video of such "talking", this is a family forum after all .DaveOZ wrote:Great pics. I actually love magpies and try my best to talk to them while they attack. I think it helps.....
