Seem to be a budget Resin (carbon?) bodied pedal, similiar to 105 & Ultegra Carbon variants.
Can't find any review on them, but appear to be easily available locally (Cell/99/Pushys/etc)
Found this good comparison shot... looks alot like the 105 Carbon!

I've had the R540 on my bike for nearly a year and I have had no dramas given they are mostly plastic. I would guess the 550 would be a bit better.

I have used the R540, & currently run 105 5700, which are much better due to the wider platform. The R550's seem to have the wider platform in a lighter package at a similiar price to the 105's.
I don't know if these are a new model, but was hoping to hear 1st hand accounts.

It looks very similar to the 105 carbon pedal, apart from the spindle used - that may be the only difference between the pair.
FWIW - 105 5700 pedals are going VERY cheap at present - $40-45 at any of the online outlets.
cheers

I'm just wondering how well they will fare as far as wear goes where the cleat hooks in at the front of the pedal?

Looks like their part of the new range. I have the Ultegra in carbon, bought from o/s for around $120-130 about 18 months ago, plus 105's in metal on another bike and had 540's on that prior to 105's.
From what I can see the 105's and 540 have the same spindle as what these have which needs a special plastic bit to take them apart. I bought one a while back for loose change and I still couldn't get them apart. The Ultegra carbon (and from that image the 105 carbon) on the other hand can be undone with shifter and easily cleaned and re-greased. As far as use, cleats don't slip into the pedals as easy on the carbon one's but they are easier to disengage IMO, not a huge difference though. Other than weight I'm not convinced there is big advantage in carbon V metal pedals.
