New helmet and sunglasses

Postby spirro » Wed Sep 11, 2013 11:19 am

Hi all

I'm in the market for a new helmet and glasses. I'm eyeing off the Limar 777 helmet as it seems to have some pretty good reviews. Torpedo7 has it for $79.95, but there is the Limar 909 for $10 more. Not sure which is the better one to go for.

Also looking at some photochromic sunglasses. These two are looking good.

http://99bikes.com.au/sunglasses-jetbla ... atic-black" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I'm trying to keep cost on both items to a minimum.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Whether they are any good or should I be looking at something else?

Thanks

+1 on the Limar.

I just love my 777, you don't even feel like you've got it on. (sounds like a promo for something else  )

The only thing I found was that the plastic 'hinge' in the strap is weak. Mine came apart but I just used a small black zip tie to join the 2 pieces back together and it's back in action.

Will I get another when it finally dies... despite the break, yes.

I have the 909 bought from T7 and I wouldn't recommend it. While it fits ok, it also has a few pressure points sometimes, it's physically quite big (not too big as in helmet size), and I find the straps / back retention system hard to get feeling right. So not a good review in my opinion. I wore it for a little while then bought a Bell Sweep to replace it. I've since cracked the bell in an accident so am back using the 909 while looking for something else.

Everyone is different though, it might just be my head! I'd see if you can try one on somewhere first, which may but be possible.

Can't comment on your choice of glasses, but as an alternative I use these. You'll see that there are a choice of light transmission types for their photochromatic lenses, I have the light night type which spans a range of 75%-25%. These are my go everywhere glasses, used on everything from night MTB rides to full summer day roadie stints. They are also pretty scratch resistance, I've dropped them more than a few times and they are still unscathed.

The Jet Black Svelto's glasses are fine...comfortable. Got mine from Pushy's for a little less than that though http://www.pushys.com.au/jetblack-svelt ... asses.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; They've also got the Limar helmets as well. Though I personally prefer the Lazer helmets so I'd suggest the Lazer Neon http://www.pushys.com.au/lazer-neon-roa ... -2013.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; the Rollsys harness is a good thing!

Another +1 for the 777. Great helmet!

I can't say as much for the Route7 sunnies though...cheap and nasty, imo. Better to spend a little extra and get something decent.

Thanks! Luckily I haven't placed my order yet.

Is the Limar OF8 a better buy?

I personally wear one of these, you barely know its on when riding because its so light.

If you are buying glasses from T7 I would be looking at something in the Adidas range.

Big fan of the Lazer Helium plus you can add the Magneto sunglasses. No more arm to bug my ears

I've got the Limar Ultralight from T7 as well. I've had it for a little over 12 months now. It's a really comfortable, light helmet.

I started off with a Limar Ultralight, fits a little bit loose no matter what I tried with the straps and it is a bit bulky shape-wise, light weight though. I couldn't use it without a headband to stop the sweat running into my eyes due to the padding direction at the front, I got sick of it after a few months and went to a Bell Sweep. The Sweep fitted my head much better and the padding is in much better positions so I could ditch the headband and not have any issues with sweat running down my face. Its lasted a while but the padding is starting to get thin and needed an upgrade, was flicking through bike exchange and saw Lawrencia Cycles in Melbourne have Bell Volt's for $125 so picked one up today. Looking around online it looks like they have managed to get a heap 2011 stock of 3 different colours and they are close to half price, would struggle to find a better helmet for the $$$.

I have a Limar 909 and am a bit meh about it. Comfortable enough for me, but there's no through venilation (or very little of it) and I find it a bit sweaty in summer. Certainly much worse than the Giro I had before it. My Limar will be two years old soon, and I plan to replace it shortly as I figured I've got my money's worth out of it and I can justify moving on.

For sunnies I've been very impressed with the Northwave's I picked up from c r c or Wiggle (can't remember which). Very good sunnies at a very good price.
