* front derailleur cable end brushing my shoe/crank arm
* bottom bracket bearing
* rear wheel bearings starting to go
* Lezyne frame pump slightly loose
* shimano pedal bearing
* pin from repaired chain link sitting slightly proud after being snapped off and clicking over adjacent tooth in cassette particularly between the 11-12 or 12-13 cog. I always check out quick links as well now
* derailleur hanger bent after crash and gears difficult to tune.
* loose headset expander bolt, which mimicked the faulty headset bearing test mentioned by Twizzle (a bike shop guy found this in about 5 mins)
It can be really annoying and frustrating getting to the cause, particularly when the noise can't be replicated when you're off the bike.

I had a chain slip onto the spokes and scrunch them up ever so slightly. So slight I didn't even notice they were a little bent. I got that dreaded tick tick noise which sounded only under a load (pedaling) and at different times I thought it was coming from every part of the bike you can imagine. Trued the wheel, noise was gone.
I had to vote for "other" because unbelievably there's no "spokes" party. I feel I've wasted my vote.

- check rear wheel quick release (I don't that's your issue, but very quick and easy to discount it)
- check headstem and headset (as suggested by previous poster)
- check seatpost (carbon paste that bad boy!)
- replace chain (last thing you can do yourself easily)
- get local shop to check BB

I did that and holding the headset/forks there is the micro-movement - micrometre movement however could make sense on the downstrokes that the frame pressure acts on the headseat.twizzle wrote:Apply front brake, push bars down, rock bike backwards and forwards. If there is any free play in the bearings, you should be able to 'feel' it in your hands as the bearings shift.
In my ballpark to find the time to then get this done.

Next step is to get some carbon fibre paste and redo the seat tube, but silence has returned. Thanks for all of the suggestions.

personally, if it is all silent now I'd be tempted to leave everything alone!

Don't you wish you'd gone with the popular poll option and treated your bike to a BB rebuild?AUbicycles wrote:Headset it was!

I'm glad someone else has a similar opinion of pressed bottom bracket bearings as me.Duck! wrote:There isn't really much to do with press-fit BBs, .... It's really not a well thought out concept.
BB30 is a pet hate of mine. The other types aren't much better in terms of serviceability, although they do appear to be more reliable than BB30.

Under force it can move microns and click . Try to remove your cleats and use something like gasket goo refit ... remove and see the fit up.
You may need to rub back the cleat in certain points to gain conformity.
Not everything mass produced with plastic is perfect from factory.
Once your cleat is fitted properly use some loctite on the screws.

DEAR GOD NO.Sith1 wrote: Once your cleat is fitted properly use some loctite on the screws.
Do you have any idea how many cyclists have already had to try drilling out buggered and scraped up bolts just to change a set of cleats? If you need Loctite you're doing it wrong.
