Why would you take a gorgeous frame like this and stick a god awful fork and riser stem on it?

Because some numpty's think:
That a steel fork is too harsh to ride;
A steel fork is to heavy;
A threadless headset is easier to setup;
It's too hard to find a quill stems;
Quill stems flex to much; and
Quill stems are heavy
:rolleyes:

Personally I think anything less than a threaded steel fork and a quill stem looks like crap on a bike like that.

anyone put their hand up to buying the team ti replica raleigh compitition (sic) frame on ebay last week for $130-odd?
what about the cannondale 2.8 with full 7400 that went for under $200?
if i had more room, i would have bid on both of those..
you guys need to lift your game - all this gaspipe posting is making me jaded.

I missed the end of the Raleigh. A touch too big for me so unlikely I would have bid anyway, someone got a decent buy though. Missed the cannondale completely :o (Every chance I never saw it if it wasnt in Melbourne)

edit: $200 BIN softride frame...

Oooh! I like!

I could fit it up with my 500EX Biopace groupset, and have a retro machine that's wrong in every possible way!

But still not as wrong as running a red LED on the front of the bike, as shown in his pic. *slap*

tim
who might see how the bidding goes... just for the hilarity of turning up on it on a bunch ride one day...

Yeah, I think I posted that here.

I'm amused enough by the idea to throw a hundred and something bucks at it, especially if it gives me somewhere to hang some of the spare bits that are kicking around the shed. It's not really another new bike if I already have all the bits, is it? :oops:

Not amused enough by the idea to spend $400 on yet another complete bike... which would bring me ever closer to the "D" limit.
