Fully agree. People collide with trains, even bright yellow buses and claim not to have seen them. I dont for 1 minute think im somehow miraculously protected but there is no doubt that I am more visible, eye catching and attention grabbing, than normal bikes, motor bikes, even cars. People dont know what I am so tend to hesitate and take a second look / stare rather than pulling out.Lukeyboy wrote:And yet some how people still crash into trains. IT'S A FRICKIN' TRAIN! Velomobiles overseas have been hit by cars though so of course it could happen. I ride in a manner that minimises the risk as much as possible. Overall, I feel much safer in my velomobile than I did riding my DF bikes for the 5 years beforehand.

Not sure that's a scientific principleThrilloilogy wrote:I don't mind commuting in the rain. But when you get to work, and the hot water is broken in the shower it leads to great disappointment.
Can someone please explain the scientific principle to me of how cold water is colder than the room temperature?
Don't think temperature, think heat flow.

Despite having now done 5,896km for the year, the bar is tells me I still have to ride another 1,177km to get to my target that only 704km away.
However DaveS should be pretty happy. Only another 515km to cover his remaining 1,433km.
Is Tony Abbott and his treasurer doin ghte maths?

This morning the BOM said the winds were a north westerly and blowing from 17 k/h. Feeling a little flat also so took a Berocca before I left the house. Given the wind and the direction it was blowing I thought I would give some strava segments a go on my ride.
All I can say is ...what a difference a Berocca makes lol....had plenty of ooomph in the tank this morning which surprised me given it is hump day.
I savoured the wind direction the entire ride too...as I know I am going to hurt this afternoon riding into it.

Isn't that saying you are 1177km in front? (not behind).ColinOldnCranky wrote:Methinks the motivational bar is not doing a very good job. Damned depressing in fact.

it's all relative. I can't afford to live closer to work, like the area I live in and am really lucky to have bike paths almost all the way to workDan wrote:Yep. I'm also lucky that I can do extended commutes a "few" days a week
if i could live 5 mins from work, I'd probably do that, and walk.

Agreed. I also have a bikeway for the majority of the journey to work, and an option to get the bus should I choose. Realistically, I only cycle 2, maybe 3 days a week, although sometimes that's the extent of my forays to work anyway.jasonc wrote: it's all relative. It would be nice to have a flash bike like that...unfortunately my budget and family life exclude me from having such a bike...at the momentjasonc wrote:saw a really nice flouro green/yello Cipollini on the way home Tuesday night

But more importantly...what was the engine that was moving the bike like....no good having a Ferrari shell and a VW engine pushing it along

The engine - it was going the other way but didn't look like it was struggling.
