These pedals have been floating around on WeightWeenies for awhile now, after being made up by keen WW modders. Ironically, Speedplay now seem to be copying the modders, and bringing out a new, very minimalistic (and exxy!!!) SP Zero pedal. Wonder if the modders will go SP for breech of copyright?!
The next generation of Speedplays coming soon!

Thats no Modded speedplay WW special - its a special version called the Pave they have cooked up for 'classics' riders.
The purpose of removing the 'plastic' disc part was that it hindered engagement when you had a pile of mud stuck in your cleat - so they nerfed it.
BTW prices quoted at $400 - $600 for a pair!

Can't see the point unless you are riding in a dirty area. Wear would be high on the cleat, SS sole protection plates would be a must to stop wear in the base plate.

Nah all that often
From what I read - in the article I posted - is that speedplay had only made these style cleats for their ambassador athletes (Cancellara, for instance) on a limited basis for a few years now, and now they are selling them. If a guy beat them to it he should have made some money of them!
