"1st "serious" bike."

That's a bummer, bikes are meant to be fun.

Ok, well the old hands already know this, but let me explain the number of bikes you should own.

The correct number of bikes = n + 1, where n is the number of bikes you currently own, and if course it is a recursive calculation.

Until you pony up for a velomobile, you never going to get out of the n+1 loop.

For me n+1 = V (velomobile)

I sold my carbon road bike after 13months of no use since my velomibile arrived.

Disclaimer - I plan to
ride my wifes bike to large shopping centres where I must leave it unattended around children and morons. I'm also currently browsing ebay for a decent MTB to go bush bashing with my 11 yo.

Did I just invent V+1 ?

That was kind of what I was planning for my first road bike. A classic euro steelie but with current gruppo for ease of maintenance/supply of parts. But then someone dropped a Cannondale frame in exactly the right size in my lap (thanks again, you know who you are) and now I'm channelling Jens.

Shut up, legs.

Very Nice - I am hoping to nab something similar as my n+1 for the High Country Challenge and to complete 7 Peaks.

Need to be able to ride decently before I can justify it first.
