GOPRO Handle bar mount warning

If you have a GOPRO then I would advise against using the handle bar mount, I was coming down clear mt Yesterday and the mount failed due to vibration.
The thing fell off at high speed, luckily the camera was OK but it took a while to find it because it bounced off road.

Anyway after reading up a little I have ordered a k-edge mount.

Yeah, we have had the same problem with GoPro mounts - three broken so far, one handle bar, one helmet and I can't remember the third but I am getting frustrated!

I think there was a running joke in the Video Camera thread as to how quickly the GoPro mount would fail on you. I used mine for 4 weeks before it failed. The K-edge mount has been faithful ever since (it has been months and still going strong).

Any suggestions for mounts on the Giant Propel aero handle bars? The oval shape is going to be a headache!

Mounting the camera at an angle can be particularly problematic for the mounts. In any event I would recommend a "lanyard" - a piece of string or fishing line works well.

For an alternate mount for oval handlebars, would this work for you ? It simply replaces the top cap on your steerer tube.

I've been using the strap-on helmet mount for my 2 GoPros (Hero 1 and Hero 3) for years now, without problems. Can't comment on the other mount types, though, as I've never tried them.

It lasted 2.5 rides, and it would mounted under the handle bars. Looking forward to trying the k-edge this weekend for the GCFOC.

I think it's the high frequency vibration that kills the mounts on road bikes, I guess you don't get this on your head.

K-Edge video quality should be better.

I have broken a K-Edge front mount, but it was because of a crash and I mounted it up (camera on top) rather than below which is recommended.

My Gopro mounts are still unused on the box. K-edge is the way to go, very solid.

K-edge are great, I snapped my gopro one after a week!

k-edge have released more mounts now so they are/can be capable of using other cameras besides GoPros. If you have the older models you can buy extension arms that utilise the GoPro mount.

Got tired of breaking the links, but too cheap to buy a k-edge. Have purchased an aluminium mount for $9.80


and as an alternative a copy of the k-edge go big mount for $14.30

I found the k-edge to be too expensive for what they are (as a technical comparison with other equipment such as a cassette - although K-edge may be low production and thus higher priced).

The cheapies look interesting - especially considering the really poor quality of the screws that come with the k-edge.

Exciting to see the Sony Cam mount but... BUT I would recommend mounting upsidedown. It may mean rotating video 180 degrees (can't remember if the sony cam does this with its settings) but the aim is to get the camera further down below the handlebars such as you would with the Go Pro mount.

As someone who has had a mount break and almost lost my GoPro because of it, I now find K-Edge mounts to be worth their price.

USB key laniards and K-Edge mounts. I now swear by them. Yes they are expensive but so is a replacement GoPro and I have two mounted on my bike.
