It is fresco, rather than just paint, and this is extremely durable. Many such frescoes survive from the times of ancient Rome. Do a google search for 'trompe l’oeil ceiling fresco ' and this church is the one that comes up.Lonely Planet wrote:The church, built by the Jesuit architect Orazio Grassi in 1626, boasts a Carlo Maderno facade and a celebrated trompe l’oeil ceiling fresco by Andrea Pozzo (1642–1709) depicting St Ignatius Loyola being welcomed into paradise by Christ and the Madonna. For the best views of the fresco, stand on the small yellow spot on the nave floor and look up. The ceiling, which is, in fact, absolutely flat, appears to curve. But walk a little further into the church and the carefully created perspective stops working and the deception becomes clear.

I remember the 'dome' fresco on the flat ceiling now too - a great illusion.

However I DO have next week off and I WILL be in Denmark. And I intend to sample an adequate range and quantity of the local drop and get lots of riding in.
So, all in all, I will still be somewhere better.

You believe Europe is interesting. My mind is stuck on Australia.
You dream of canals, wine, archaeological sites, etc on the European continent. I dream of the emptiness of the Australian outback, and practice playing a PVC didgeridoo I build myself.
I wish there was a way to swap experiences! Or at least be rich enough to stop dreaming and start packing for our dream tours.

Oh, I dream of that as well. A lengthy tour right around this great land (maybe 1-2 years duration, when I've retired) will be on the cards within the next ten years. I have ridden the Oodnadatta Track, and to Kings Canyon, the Mereenie Loop, Uluru, Finke, and Andado Station. This has just given me the taste for more. But Europe calls as well.rama wrote:Funny how our subjective views differ of places we would rather be, thinking it must be better than the places were are now.

Yes, that'd be handy as wellrama wrote:I wish there was a way to swap experiences! Or at least be rich enough to stop dreaming and start packing for our dream tours.

Yes, I dutifully attended my place of employment. And planned also...
A 9 hour XPT trip from Maitland to Casino, camping overnight, then cycling the remainder to Rosebank, NSW, where my beloveds would be unsuspectingly waiting. I whipped an early Gemini World Randonneur into action, applying the rear rack and panniers that the overnight stay required. Needless to say, it performed well!
The photo below is taken at the farm gates, immediately before I made my grand entry. The reaction from the kids was fantastic, wifely just thought I was crazy...
So, there you, go. That's where I'd rather be...

Doesn't come within a bull's roar. Would it be Lake Tyers, Boggy Creek Arm perhaps?

Nice story and great effort at short-notice.Matt Zac wrote:Recently my wife was asked to look after her mother's property at short notice, an undertaking that had her and our 3 little ones away for nearly two weeks while I stayed home and went to work (or so they thought...)

Spent a couple of weeks backpacking/living out in Tioman Island Malaysia. Really beautiful place, got some paved and unpaved tracks. They are more motorbike people, even the little kids ride bikes there. But there's really good terrain for biking. Wish I could go back there but alas real life.
Been also to Amsterdam recently. Man its a pain riding on city streets with all that traffic.
