2014 Giant Trance X1 29er. Hit or Miss?

Postby bighead89 » Fri Sep 27, 2013 1:13 am

After looking around for a MTB around $2500. I've come to the conclusion of a 2014 Giant Trance X 1 29er. Question is what do others think about this bike?
http://www.giant-bicycles.com/en-au/bik ... ifications

With the added drop post and maestro suspension, I think its the best buy for money.
Test ride seemed pretty good as well. Seemed comfortable over bumps and well handles some down hill action.
Will be planing to ride You Yangs (VIC) on this.
However, I think the colour is a terrible mix. Orange with black and silver.. no. I honestly think this bike is sort of ugly. But handles beautifully IMO (like this car - http://news.drive.com.au/drive/motor-ne ... 2hjaf.html )

How does everyone else think about the 2014 Giant Trance X1 29er? Hit or Miss?

Thanks,

Didn't you get Giants memo? 650B is where it's at!
On a more serious note, I don't believe it's changed from the 2013 model, and there plenty of reviews/opinions/comments out there on that.

FWIW if I had coin for a new bike, this would be high on my list too.

I read about Giant putting there foot behind 650b, however, in terms of comfort and capability, the 29er suited my needs. Trance offered a better front suspension than the Anthem (similar priced group) and the dropper seat post. 2014 trance very similar to 2013 Trance, just different brakes installed. 2014 still good value, right ? :P

Definitely a hit for mine; if Giant had a Trance 29er in their lineup when I bought my Anthem I'd most likely be on one.

Personally I'm not a fan of SRAM drivetrains, but there's a fair old price jump to the X0 model... if you like SRAM I'm sure X7/X9 is good gear. The change to Shimano brakes is interesting (I swapped the supplied Elixrs on my Anthem for XT - the shop told me most people who bought that model did the same).

The colour scheme is decidedly naff IMO... Whereas the X0 looks flippin' sweet to my eye. Probably not a good enough reason to go ~$1500 over budget though ;)

Come to think of it, I seem to recall someone advertising a 2013 Trance X00 in the marketplace here, not too far over your budget - though a few months ago, so might've sold by now.

Edit - WTS - Vic - 2013 Giant Trance X00 :(.

If you can live with the paint job then go for it, Trance is a great all rounder.

You're not looking at the paint while you're riding it....
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.

I bought a 2013 trancex 1 29er. I'm 6'2" and I love the fit and feel of the bike. Since I've had mine approx 2 rides a week over 5 months. I've snapped the stock chain and the rear sus has been replaced due to loss of pressure. All warrant jobs and no fuss from lbs. the dropper is good but mine has gunked up a bit and it's not so smooth anymore.
Changing the brakes over is a good move by giant IMHO mine are avid and I'm not a fan. All in all its a really good bike and the support behind it is excellent. I'd get the net nod up and chuck it on interest free! ;)

One of the guys around the corner from me finished 9th overall in pairs in last weekends Singletrack Mind round on one. A great all rounder and they pedal alright.

Gotta love Giants end of year sales.

When I bought my Reign it was the superseded model and I paid $3000 when retail was $4200.

Then I saw one 6 months later for $2500 :(

My mate bought a second hand 2014 Giant Trance 29 XO for 2k. No dropper post. Which is awesome considering it running XT and being the a high end current model on the market. Best value I have to say.

First single track downhill ride with frequent drops on my new Anthem convinced me i should have bought a Trance !

Consolation is that the Anthem is so much fun i don't have any (huge) regrets :-)
