Far from it buddy, I am getting rid of a 29er so I can keep my Mukluk (future fatbike plans) and fitting the 2.4 Conti's to it. So it will have semi fats fitted
I have to justify some bike expenses, and have a backup plan for the part time treasurer...

I am surprised in the difference in the Niner EMD and Salsa Mukluk head tubes for an XL frame, the Mukluk's is heaps long in comparison.

Speaking to the LBS who is dealing with Norco...he's expecting the Norco Bigfoot to come into the store in the next few weeks.

Expected retail around $1,700 at this stage. The 2x10 drivetrain is on the basic side of course with an OE Deore RD and it obviously won't be the lightest think around...but it is fat! And not ridiculously expensive.

Worth a try I hope.....

I'm after six Big Fat Larry tyres 120tpi folding bead and for the life of me can't source them in Australia. If anyone knows of any then I'd really appreciate it if you would let me know.

Over here our fat bikes are multiplying with new arrivals....and sprung fronts on all...

I will keep an eye out as I am about to try to find a set of these to fit 100mm rims if possible.

I took the Fat Sand Bike out for first commute today, a few pics in the bike gallery:

PS: I just found my first recumbent "fat trike" to accompany my "fat bike" :)

(I'd just want horizontal dropouts instead of tensioner)

[quote="trailgumby"]The manager at Belrose Bikes has a Moonlander fitted with SRAM XX1, a full Enve cockpit and a Lefty fork.

I wonder where he got the adapters for the Lefty made up, if it was in Aust or overseas, that or if he used a 29er or 26 fork. Hmmm thinking...

That'd be a 29er fork and the adapters would be Project 321 from http://rlcsport.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Mendon Cyclesmith sells an adapter in black for $US 220, The main thing I am unsure of if they use a longer arm than the Project 321 adapter arms.
It certainly is a tempting option...

Looking at the specs and build of the Norco Bigfoot and the frame, I think I might speak to the LBS and dump it, it really looks agricultural when compared
to the other ones out there like the Specialized Fatboy and the Trek Farley. The Farley really has some redeeming features in comparison and comes as a
frameset option in two colours along with a 170 rear hub spacing. I was going to pull the trigger on the specialized fatboy but the Trek is a more affordable
and versatile option for me, now to see what deal my LBS will do, noting it is US$ 879 for the frameset RRP.

http://www.trekbikes.com/us/en/bikes/mo ... y_frameset" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I was going to do some stuff with my Mukluk but might just keep it as a rigid 29er, it is a little limited in the fork selection as it is an XL frameset with a monster sized headstock.

I gave the Mukluk a freshen up with a suspension fork. http://www.murucycles.com/#!swale-o/c1d3w" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's changed the bike significantly and the front end steering rigidity has improved out of sight. It also no longer tries to kill me if I bomb down loose rock. A fine improvement.

Also a new Witjira Ti from Muru as a bit of a light weight racer fattie. So very impressed with this frame in terms of quality and geometry that is spot on for outback aventure and well thought out. Ti feels fabulous too. Running either another suspension fork like above or the Ti rigid fork. That is so light....but interesting under brakes. My wife has pretty much claimed this bike so another will be on its way, though this time the V2 Witjira I think for a bit more room for the suspension fork bridge. It's massive.

We will all be spoilt for options with so many frames hitting the market. Fun times ahead!

Looks good mate. The frame looks like the new SUperfly frame I was telling you about yesterday.

31.6 seat post so you can run the reverb with a spacer.

Well after a lifetime of off-road cycling I never thought that I would experience *that* feeling again. It's a wonderful thing to ride. What a sweeTi

and a nice little touch sand blasted onto the frame....

Thanks, that was one of the many reasons why after a but more research and looking more closely at the Trek specs that it actually isn't as bad as what I initially thought. I will keep the Mukluk for the time being, still waiting to see what the LBS will say whether I am actually locked into buying the Norco, but the Frameset option of the Trek Farley might be an upgrade option down the track and flog one of the frames off. Sadly Trek will not by the looks of things releasing the Farley into Australia in the near future, private importation looks like being the only way to do it.

I have thought about upgrading the forks on the Mukluk, but for the price of the forks I can get another frameset, or put away for my Lefty conversion

Mind you I really like the look of the Muru bikes, sex on wheels...

I like the Moots triple clamp forks on that bugger, looks really cool, must have been custom made for it as there aren't any triple clamps
in the system unless you buy some risse forks, but then you would have to lace the rims to 120mm wide hubs.

Just back from a great tirp with a couple of fat bikes. So much fun!

Image
For this trip we were to explore the south east coast of Australia and loaded up with a pair of fat bikes. A beautiful new Titanium Muru Witjira fat bike and my old blue Simpson Desert race fat bike.

The bikes were to play a big role in our enjoyment during this trip and having them loaded safe and sound whilst being able to deploy them in seconds wherever and whenever we liked meant that we used them all the time. Be it a long adventure, a blast along a beach or to just pedal down the street of a country town. Just sensational to have along.

Image
90 Mile Beach - thankfully it's a lot shorter with a strong tail wind.

Image
Thurra Dunes - an ocean of sand and one of the rare places where you can immerse yourself into an environment that is huge, wide, gentle and open but on a human scale so you feel at one with the place.

Image
You also have the option to crash your way down the 110m drop to the river below. It's steep and soft.

Image
Honeymoon Beach.....

Image
Plenty of coastal tracks to get the vehicle down into and pick up drive around the rough parts that can be unrideable.

Image
Drop dead gorgeous little creeks to explore.

Image
Trails to the north leave the coastal heath and track along the deep red cliffs and into a world of colour and contrast. A wonderful way to take in the early morning. The sure footed fat bikes have tenacious grip on these rocks but you still need to keep your eyes ahead to avoid the deep and wide cracks in the rock.

Image
And all along you're never alone. A constant parade of Hump Back and Southern Right Whales travelling south. They aren't shy either. Mother humpback and calf came right up to the cliff where we stood for a morning greeting. The young are born in tropical waters and weigh in at 1.5 tons. They consume 660 litres per day of mother's milk and weigh over 5.5 tons by the time they leave Australian waters for the Antarctic feeding grounds where they feast and fatten up on tons of krill.

Image
The young calfs even put on a show from time to time. How cool is that!

All this because we ride fat bikes....

Fantastic!

Phil, you know what's really tragic about this? I'm pulling the trigger on a V2 as well. Melanie has gone all heavy on me and made it clear that equality in marriage extends to bikes as well.

And so the wait begins....again.....Sigh.
