I agree with that, John. Earlier and steady pace.

Thanks for the ride BFV, John & Claire. BFV tried to show how tough he was by only riding in the big ring, but didn't quite make it.

Ended up with 98.9 km for me, but wasn't about to do 1.1 km around the block to bring up 3 figures. 1,626m climbed, max speed of 80 km/h on Roseville bridge.

Thought I was a legend for being able to ride home strongly, then I turned across the wind

Thanks for the ride, guys. Being a friendly vegan who is BIG, powering up hills is not fun. I'm definitely a rhythm climber and when you can't spin, the only rhythm you have is a funeral dirge. Started cramping whenever I hit a hill, which is when I bugged out. Getting back up to the top of the park was hard and I did walk it up the hardest parts. Must HTFU for the next ride.

The Thai "coffee shop" at the top of the McCarrs Creek Rd is a popular congregation point for (a) parking and (b) water. Go around the building on the right side of the stairs and there's a tap there. Something to keep in mind for the next time.

Mona Vale road/Ryde Road all the way to Macquarie Uni was fun, though. Every coffee shop in St Ives was flooded with lycra, but I didn't stop.

Claire needs to ride competitively (PM me and I'll introduce you to the LACC Women's Development squad). I haven't seen too many guys take hills like she does. I think she actually enjoys them. Sick, sick woman.

Thanks for the ride guys - I throughly enjoyed it even though I had to bail out on the way back at Macquarie Park railway station to get back home before my 'Bathurst race loving' partner and his family killed me for being late to lunch! Dammit, I was really looking forward to the ride home too.

The scenery going through Akuna Bay was fantastic and a new experience for me, so a great suggestion Bruce.

Yes, BFV, in a perverse way I do love going up hills - it's the only way I stand a chance of keeping up with the rest of you!

Thanks guys. Nice to explore some different territory. I suffered on the climbs. Doesn't seem to matter how many I do, I never get any better. I thought it was funny when we got to the top of the Akuna Bay climb and found people loading their bikes into cars. I'm sure they'd have ridden up there slower if they'd had a 40k ride home...

Bruce expressed surprise at the mix of Weinmann Delta brakes, Suntour shifters, Adamas front derailleur, 7-speed 105 rear derailleur, 8-speed 600 wheels and Sugino cranks on my bike but the Mobile Junk Pile™ performed flawlessly.

Bruce and I benefitted from the incredible tailwind and I was home a bit after 12.30. My wife went to a movie and I had a sleep. :D

Hmmm, do you think there's something wrong with this chain?

Sensible advice.

I agree, although DHBC has a a women's programme as well (including regular track training). Though LACC is probably closer to home.

Shame to have missed this one - I (on the otherhand) was riding through the Hunter wine region on a poorly maintained, hire MTB, wearing a Zebra Onsie (Dont ask!!)
It was my annual soccer team, end of season trip. Had a good time though :D

Thanks for the support guys. I have contacted bigfriendlyvegan who has put me in touch with a lady from the LACC. I might try out a beginners ride with them and see how I go.

Want a small retro bike Claire? Columbus Bundy with 600, and located not too far away from you. Its probably a 48cm ST, and no more than a 50cm.

Hi Quang,
Bruce PM'd me this bike this morning... I've contacted the seller and he's getting back to me with the size. The person (his son) who rides it at the moment is 5'6' though... So i'll see what he says. Thanks for looking out for me :-)

I'm out for this weekend peep's. Here's a suggestion from April
http://connect.garmin.com/activity/304379278" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've been invited on the Rapha Gentlemens/Womens Ride so I've got to put in some more serious hills in training for what will surely be massive by my standards.

Ride safe everyone, wherever the road takes you :D

It will fit my kids, so if you don't go for it, I might.
