I concur, a great fun loving bloke, loved life and his family, always said g'day at the Mont and Scott, and always asked about my bikes, never came first or last, but
gave the race thing ago for the fun of it and being with mates. Known him for over 20 years as a workmate, my sincerest condolences to your family, RIP bloke.

Sounds like most of us that ride the endurance races for fun - really sad to hear about this one.

Reports on Adelaide radio this morning that a 69 yo cyclist who was in a collision on Sunday has passed away. Sorry, no more info than that.

A truly shocking incident in Brisbane today. The arterials in Carindale would see a truck with a deployed stabaliser bar do more severe damage on almost any given road if left for any period whilst moving. I sincerely hope this arm did deploy accidentally.
RIP to the cyclist and Kat's and my thoughts are with both families tonight.
Regretably another name to add to Sunday's Ghost Bike.

Wow... That area of old Cleveland road has pretty good shoulders for cyclists to enjoy... So sad to hear... What on earth can we do to keep ourselves safe... Would like to hear the official report once it comes out...

I heard a quick news flash about a cyclist killed, around 6.30pm last night on commercial tele. Googled and there was nothing.
Very sad to hear about this...and even more glum about the terminology used by the police to describe the event.

"... the woman, who was cycling along Old Cleveland Road, came into contact with part of the truck causing her to fall from her bicycle."

The implication being the cyclist hit the truck, and not the other way around.

Pretty obvious bias stops them from writing it this way:
"....a truck, traveling along Old Cleveland Road, came into contact with a cyclist...."

Another call from the CM just now. Nobody is even sure what kind of truck it was. Container Swing Lift? Crane?

I drove past the incident last night, this is very sad and hit home a bit as this is on my cycle route home. I will be riding home this evening but think I may take an alternate road tonight. It's just too sad to comprehend.

The accident happened at a pinch point where a traffic island encroaches on the shoulder, forcing you to ride on the lane. This may have had no bearing on this accident however as the reports in the news say that the stabilizer deployed as the truck entered Old Cleveland Rd from Creek Rd. I can only imagine that the stabilizer was sticking out a fair way? The truck that was at the scene was a semi trailer with precast concrete and an on-board crane. Hence the need for the stabilizers.

There are about 4 such pinch points on this road which otherwise has a wide shoulder.

Those choke points give me the frights. There's one on my commute thru Kirribilli but fortunately there's enough of a gap to filter between it and the kerb. Not zo on many others and im forced to change lanes. They're a serious hazard for cyclists in a lot of places.

That seems like they've already prejudged the incident and apportioned blame to the cyclist.

No blame has been attributed but it's just the way they do their formal wording when reporting incidents. Having attended my fair share of media/press conferences involving police matters it can seem weird at times and a lot of stuff you see in the news are snippits of the media release and during questioning. An example of the weird wording is the typical car vs train/level crossing incidents in where boomgates/train(s) has come into contact with a vehicle.

Another more detailed report expected in the CM any moment. Hopefully more appropriate language is used 2nd time around. The young lady that alerted me to the accident was interviewed about an hour ago. She drove past as the truck driver was administering CPR.
