Anti Magpie devices

This is the reason why I only ride in pairs during Aug to Nov and simply hit the stationary trainer any other time I feel like a ride.

I had one swoop for me crossing a semi enclosed pedestrian bridge across the freeway in North Sydney this morning....smacked straight into the fencing surrounding the bridge. I was just glad that for once it was him who got hit and not me!

I got myself one of those silicone led blinkies that look a bit like a tadpole, like a knog light but not a knog branded. Looped it through the helmet pointing the red leds backwards and have never been hit (while they were blinking).

I like to think it also serves to bring attention to my head, ie to the driver of the falcodore behind me I am a person riding a bike, not just a bike on the road.

I've got a pair of blackburn flea's mounted on my helmet. white facing forward, red facing rearward. held on with 3M duallock.

They definitely help with being seen after dark, but haven't noticed them making a difference to the magies.

Well after all your advice I went and put some giant cable ties and my ride along went well yesterday.

Today thought cut them off when riding with someone else and the magpie decided it was revenge and time to swoop me.

Are they STILL attacking??

The ones around my area seem to have settled down again. The one that usually swoops me I think will be bribed a few times until I can get it to eat from my hand without fear. I'm hoping it'll then leave me alone in future.

Yeah I had two swoops today. Both at the Mcgraths Hill Mcdonalds area on Windsor road (NSW)

I hate them so much I don't know I could ever feed them! That might explain why I get swooped still.

But seriously, you run into them when cycling? Do snakes puncture tires as well?

This was before the end of last magpie season. I just try and duck just as the swoop you. It's easier when you can see their shadow

I take the opposite approach... I lurch up at them when they swoop... Watching their shadow and getting my timing right... If u headbutt one hard enough he won't come back! (Don't laugh I'm serious!)

A few months old now. Not far from the road crossing heading towards Windsor near Curtis Road turnoff I think. I had two goes at me too cheeky bugger!

A work colleaugue who rides on Windsor Rd (Rouse Hill environs), regularly, recounted that his riding partner, without any real warning, received a nasty temple gash. Helmet/eyewear not any help there.

I presume that magpie had watched The Battle of Midway the previous evening and thought he was a Douglas Dauntless.
