This year, we had a core group of five riders the whole way, with a couple extra riding to Queenscliff with us (thanks for all the hard work guys!). Started with one of us puncturing in City rd about 3-5km from the start. Half our group rode on with four of us left to chase. Had the absolute best time trying to catch them down the Geelong Hwy . Part way down, we got passed by a small group of Michelin Men (BTW great kit!) and jumped on the back, we were sitting well over 40kmh-thanks for the lift fellas.
Our group managed to stay together pretty well as we worked up the Mornington Peninsula; the stronger riders helping out any who were going through a tough patch. Picked up my sister in law and niece who joined us in Frankston. Really enjoyed their company, but the best bit was getting absolutely smashed by my 13 year old niece as we went up Rickett's Point (it didn't help that my mate called the start one hill too early-but she beat me up that as well )
Our group wasn't the fastest (8:40 riding for me, about 12:45 in total) but I bet we were on more drugs than US Postal

Found it - Mr Unicycle is visible from about 0:15 to 0:20....Cowcorner wrote:I actually passed him in the higher section of Oliver's but it was still reasonably steep even at that point. I think my helmet cam was still running at that stage but I haven't had a chance to go through the footage yet. Assuming it's there I'll post it tonight and attach the link. Kudos also to the guy on the green unicycle coming down Oliver's Hill into Franga - that was seriously impressive.

Congrats.BianchiCam wrote:After checking my times on the website (through fb) my time of 4.05 hours Sorrento-City puts me in the top ten. I know it's not a race but for someone who has only been riding a roadie for 10 months, I'm bloody stoked!
I'll tip my hat to that
Well done.

Quite a few tandems- probably the way to do it, essentially with the power of two but the aerodynamic profile of one.
I liked how in the final kilometres after turning in from the beach, people weren't American style fist-pumping, just quietly proud they'd made it. It is possible that a GU gel may have been needed to summon the energy to pump a fist, at this point!

Like your vid and pics. In fact my 2 mates and I are in the background from 2:49 to 3:07, just setting off after a short break at the Frankston rest stop !!
We did a similar thing ie. rode to start (from Rye) and then home at the end for 120kms. 'Twas a good day despite the conditions.

One of my mates entered the Franga return by mistake - but I managed to get it changed OK about 3 weeks ago and he got the right entry kit and his timing worked OK on the day.BianchiCam wrote:Thats because I changed from Franga return to Sorrento-City. They havent changed my certificate either although through the blink log in it states Sorrento start. Odd I know. Its listed under the Franga return. I went through the timing gates at Sorrento at the start.

Overall our kms were a bit higher - about 233 back and forth, which took us about 10hrs riding time. I was happy with that considering the BMX with 6'4" 100kg me on it + camleback, baggies, etc, are about as aerodynaimc as a moderately sized parachute. Hot afternoon riding into those headwinds, sucked up plenty of fluids. Felt fine at the end, albeit the BMX put a lot of strain on my butt.
All in all it was an OK day. Certianly nothing like the riding I normally do, but it was good to get out with some workmates and cruise around. All kinds of logistical issues, and the 1st 1/2 hr from the start is a nightmare, but take it all as fun and try and smile

The short period of minor cramping aside, I was moving well; smooth, comfortable, safe - felt strong. I was able to hold a couple of quick bunches and (inadvertently) dropped a couple of people who jumped on my tail. The 10min I spent stationary was at traffic lights. I put that all down to good housekeeping.

The only "fundraising" that's part of the entry fee is for Bicycle Network. The Smith Family money relies on the fundraising efforts of individual cyclists.Ropecharmer wrote: I know it's a fundraiser but it's too expensive, IMO.

Get work to pay as part of entering as a corporate team.it's too expensive, IMO.
