2013 Wiggle Speed in the Tweed Ride

Postby RobM » Wed Oct 23, 2013 3:48 pm

Looks like a nice course. Technically this should be in the NSW section but many QLDers will want to attend.

75/108/133km options starting from Kingscliff. Capped at 500 riders

Signed up a few months ago. Booked local accommodation to make it easier. Have a small group of 4 riders so far, will be slowish though near any uphills, or waiting at the top. Doing the short course too as this will be the first ride of this type for all of us.

Wow that will be quite a challenging course.
Look at the climb on Garmin Connect (all distance options) at about 20km from the start.
remember - start time is stated to be 7am - that will be NSW TIME !

Hmmmm - interesting. So Wiggle has taken over the Speed on Tweed.

Not looking forward to the two steep climbs on the 72k route. But still 4 weeks to get better prepared.

I did notice that they have been very careful in selecting their name obviously to avoid conflict
with the Speed On Tweed name.

Interesting, may have to try this route some day.
Was perusing the Wiggle sportives offered in the UK (soooo many), they're mostly longer and half the price, the good 'ole Aussie price hike included as per usual.

You guys will love the ride, it's the reverse direction to how I normally do it.
If you want some Strava links I'll see what I can find

It was a great ride. Definitely will keep the course on the garmin for the next time I stay down south.

Couple of roads had rough surface but very quiet traffic-wise. Great views and scenery. Plenty of photo opportunities.

Well I/we did enjoy that day out, even though a couple of us suffered to make even the "Fun" distance, but we did. Will definitely be back next year if it fits the calendar and do some training in the mean time.
Well run and signposted, except for the last couple of km, embarrassing "geographically embarrassed" moment there.

I think they were disappointed with about 130 entries, but I do hope they persevere and it grows into something good for the Brisbane, Gold Coast and Tweed region.

The roads were well selected, the motorists in the area seem to be very tolerant of cyclists, a pleasant change from the big city syndrome, and it has a lot going for it in Kingscliff.

Yep - at 37 riders for the 133kms Epic course, it was probably the smallest organized I've ever joined up. Even the Redlands Classic had more participants.

That said, it was very well run (food stops could have been stocked more) and the course/scenery was excellent. Beats the pants of Brisbane-Gold Coast any day.
