Tiagra 9 speed 11-30 cassette

Postby Cmm » Tue Oct 29, 2013 6:05 pm

Hi all

I know they have a stated max of 27 teeth for the rear derailleur but would the 11-30 work with a compact crankset? Other option is going to be 12-27. Note I am coming from 12-25 looking at a bail out gear for 7 peaks (baw baw is my biggest worry) Most of my current climbing Is in the dandenongs on Inverness am grinding up the final kick.

Any opinions will be appreciated!

I've swapped to an 11-30 9 speed cassette on one of my road bikes. It works. Just.

Four year old Tiagra groupset on it.
There's now a little bit of noise when using the big cog, due to minimal/no clearance to the guide wheel.
(I didn't bother changing over to a long cage derailleur - just wound the "B" screw all the way in instead)
It only sees use in rare situations, but it does its job well.
I'm happy with it.

Chuck a 4600 Tiagra RD on; designed to work with up to 32T. Although marketed as "10-speed", it's fully back-compatible with 9-sp.
I had a thought, but it got run over as it crossed my mind.
