You just need to Strava Sandbag more. If you use the terrain map in the segment explore, you can zoom more. There might be a few cheeky buggers who have segments near their house. A couple near me have segments down the LENGTH OF THE M7 RETURN - 90kms - next to their door! I tried to pinch it but Strava didn't link the ride to the segment. So cranky. I would have upped the average from 23kph to 29. Certain victory ;)

You could do that all day every day... There is a gazillion pointless ( except maybe to the person who made it ) segments on Strava... 1 big fish is better.

Agree Ian, I miss the feature when Strava used to sort by # of times ridden instead of date, so many nonsense ones cluttering up the page.

Good news is my VV Score is creeping up to 75.10

Mine's gone down as well. All very strange. Also my YTD distance is accurate on my signature by wrong on the veloviewer page!

We don't have it quite as bad as you guys.... many more roads to chose from, lot less riders on strava. But it would be good if when doing a segment search you could filter it a bit better to find most popular segments.

Wow...Luke thats a massive drop.....can we assume then that the previous 97-98 figure was fudged by you some how hahaha (just joking)

I thought I was ripped off by losing .5 of a point, but you and Damien really got the raw end of the stick with the update

Actually I had a cat run across the front of me doing 40kph the other night. Missed it by cms! I had a spill on the trainer bike at 35kph, the front brakes don't work at the moment on the race bike and I got a mountain bike so the combo of all 3 sorta took its toll recently. Over november I'm looking at nailing 1600km which should be exciting :) haha.

I went for a crack at a segment I thought was going to be easy to get.

Little did I realise how tough 23km/h average speed is. It requires something other than my brute force methods - something called bravery and bike handling.

4th place... Fun little segment though of twists and turns uphill. :)

Now - re the above - I've had a rabbit dart in front of me at 40-something km/h - that got the heart rate going.

Well I took the plunge and am now taking my riding that little extra step....dropped some coin on a racing licence

Hopefully my commuting k's will put me in good stead for the fitness required for racing. Hopefully I wont be dropped like a sack full of ....t on my first race.

What is cycling doing to me :)

greta, I think you'll absolutely shock yourself. You may not have the brute horsepower that most of the experienced racers will have (I swear they are all looking for a bunch sprint) but you'll have waaaay better Z2 and Z3 (tempo and endurance) than your opponents. You've done so many kms, it's just physically not possible to be unfit. Just remember that your HRM is useless, the speedo is useless; I found cadence useful to make sure I wasn't spinning too slow or too fast (easy to end up at 70 or 115 with the surging) and losing efficiency. But you don't dictate the pace. Someone else does.

Best of luck mate, you'll kill it.
Do you ride with guys who race to get a gauge as to where you're at?

PS My VV Score is creeping up slowly

Thats my unknown...my commuting is 99% done alone...and due to the k's I would rarely ride weekends (also because thats when the wife and I would spend time together)

I have this year come across another "commuter" and he does race - B grade here I believe. I can keep up with him sort of, depends on how many k's I have done already and how I am feeling bodywise. I also run Marathon Plus tyres and have a backpack compared to him on slicks and no back pack.

I am also going to cut the commuting back to three days from now in order to give the body a chance to recover. Taking today and tomorrow off from cycling to try and give myself some chance this saturday.

Damien..as to your VW score going up slowly...is that what you call 50 to 99 in one week lol...good to see the score back to where it should be

Good luck mate you'll have a blast. One thing I discovered is that the constant surging / hard efforts during races has made me stronger than I was.

Cheers

Until the update, I was at 29?

Even worse, I have a post above saying I hit 500 top 50s. That has come down to 404
