It's on Magpie season

I got swooped coming down Springvale towards Cook this afternoon. It is my normal commute every day and the first time I have ever been swooped there...

Nothing this morning on the way to work, even the one to the north of the Tuggeranong Lake spillway was hanging out with his young one and left me alone. We might be through it for the year.

For the mountain bikers amongst us, out at Kowen the maggie at the bottom of the Stockyards track, near the Millpost Road entrance is still active - gave me a few close passes and one solid hit on Monday... Don't know how he felt about 1000-odd riders going past his patch during the Kowalski Classic - maybe that's why he's still grumpy

I don't know why they've suddenly gotten grumpy again, but the Forlonge St magpie swooped me yesterday, while this morning one took off from the ground, leaving it's young'un and partner, to swoop me near the Athllon/Sulwood intersection...

Yes the forlonge st maggie had a swoop at me Weds morning (I have ridden past the spot 3 times without anything earlier in the week), then the Learmonth Dve Kambah one had a go the next morning.

I'm getting to the stage where I quite enjoy the sprinting practice, but that doesn't apply to the cunning ^%$#(AT)# who lives at the start of the steep bit of Mt Ainslie.

A juvenile wound up, somehow, on my side of the fence today, and was wandering back and forth along it in the carport a little distressed. The parents were coming and going to him and carrying on to no avail. These guys have been hanging out inthe neighours frotn yard for a while. Birdy didn't seem injured in any way but apparently is not quite at the point of flying.

I am pleased to say that while these guys have been squawking and flying onto the power lines for a long time, none have shown any indication of aggression of defence whatsoever. So, on the basis that one good turn deserves another...

after some time I gathered the young'un up and put him back over the fence where the parents were.

I got swooped on Sunday at the bottom of Honeysuckle, only one swoop but I was doing 50+kmh at the time so I think I was out of his territory fairly quickly. A few people got swooped at the hillclimb champs on Saturday on the way up, and by all accounts he was a fairly aggressive swooper and had a real go at some peoples ears. I thought swooping season was well and truly over by now!

I rode up there Sat arvo and it went for me over a good 200-300m stretch. Was a pesky little bugger!

I also got hit on the footpath at the SE corner of Athlon and Sulwood drive about 10days ago. Haven't been back through there again yet.

Yeah I got swooped around there as well, it was a damn big bird, season not over yet...
