Bars for Cinelli 1A stem..?
Postby janus77 » Thu Aug 07, 2008 10:08 am
Hey all, I'm looking at pickup up some bars for my fixie build, the ones I'm looking at have a 26mm diameter.
I believe I need one with a 22.2mm diameter? Anyone able to confirm this?
Cheers,
J.

I was reading up about this when I was shopping for a new stem for my Colnago. My understanding is that the 26.4 mm stem WILL NOT correctly bind to a standard 26 mm bar (unless you use a shim).janus77 wrote:Will a 26mm fit? or must it be 26.4mm?

That would be correct.vitualis wrote:I was reading up about this when I was shopping for a new stem for my Colnago. My understanding is that the 26.4 mm stem WILL NOT correctly bind to a standard 26 mm bar (unless you use a shim).janus77 wrote:Will a 26mm fit? or must it be 26.4mm?

You can get Cinelli 26.4mm bars on ebay pretty easily, it just depends how much you want to pay for them!

Don't Nitto RB021 Bullhorns fit 26.4mm?
I ride them, they're a bullhorn with a drop in them.

You could buy the cinelli X/A stem, it is the more modern looking quill style stem with the hidden allen key bolt. It looks very retro too and I think its a nicer looking stem than the 1/A.
If you can find some old cinelli bars you chould chop and flop them into some bullhorns (would be a bit of a shame though...)

I would be a little wary of using a shim. Especially with bullhorns as most of the time your weight will be away from the junction of the stem and the bars which will put more tension on the clamping area. It might work fine for 1000 rides when if it slipped at a bad time it wouldn't be pretty.

Cinelli mad some awesome bullhorn bars back in the crazy 1980's when people were doing all sorts of things with TT funny bikes. They will be hard to find and it'll probably be easier to go and buy a Nitto bar and stem combo.janus77 wrote:They're only 26mm too.. would likely need a shim. What stem are you using them with?
Might just sell the 1a and get something that's a bit more functional.
Or, did Cinelli make any 26.4mm bullhorn bars?
Or... my opinion, don't bother with bullhorns - you get the same riding position from riding on a standard drop bar with brake hoods (OK - that is a flat bullhorn position) and the drop of a standard/shallow-drop bar would roughly equal a deep-drop bullhorn bar. I think that a bike looks better with drops. (I started with bullhorns on my fixed and changed over the standard drops and hoods)

I have drops and bullhorns on two different bikes. I don't have hoods on my drops, therefore they don't ride like bullhorns.singletracking wrote:Cinelli mad some awesome bullhorn bars back in the crazy 1980's when people were doing all sorts of things with TT funny bikes. I love the look of my drops, but I also love the comfort from riding the Nitto Bullhorns.
