South Gippsland Mini Tour

Postby VeloGiro » Sun Nov 10, 2013 10:04 pm

Hi folks - thought i would post a link to a recent mini tour that i did with a great mate recently...riding through parts of beautiful South Gippy.

• Day One - Cranbourne to Stony Point, catching the ferry across to Cowes and on to Kilcunda
• Day Two - Bass Coast through southwest Gippsland to Toora
• Day three: Head for the hills and cross the Strzelecki Range

A cracking few days!

Here's the link if your interested... http://wp.me/s45dOT-3" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Cheers

Yep no problems rjk - I'll load it up tonight - It really was a great ride route - the only crappy section was the Dandy Hastings (Westernport Hwy) bit out of Pearcedale - If i were doing this route again I'd catch the train to Hastings and ride from there...

Ah ha!
A 2012 Vivente World Randonneur WITH barend shifters, riding through South Gippsland. I love it.
That'll be me too in exactly two weeks time, but heading down from East Gippsland.
More or less following the path of an earlier tour that was one of the best experiences in my life.

Great countryside. Enjoyed your write up and photos. Especially the locked bikes episode and the drunken pub patrons. Good stuff. :D

Thanks Tim - Just had a gander at your post - Sounds like a wonderful trip...say G'day to Wally at the Toora pub if your passing that way...I'm sure he would remember liberating the two very appreciative cycle tourers a few weeks back! If you get the chance the climb out of Toora to Mt Fatigue (its actually not that hard) rewards you with an extraordinary view south, across corner inlet and the prom country. Its mostly on dirt but the VWR handled it really well...saw lyrebirds and many wallabies on the climb up and the plant life was amazing.

Gippsland has something so very appealing re cycle touring prospects - great landscapes with such a diversity of influences from the mountain country to the plains and wild coastal environments, it supports a remarkable flora and fauna, beaches, people, its got those beautiful quite back roads, rail trails...love it!

Have a great trip in a few weeks time Tim - Looking forward to hearing how it goes this time 'round!

Cheers for now
