hi guys, im new to road cycling and am about to buy my first pair of cycling shoes, at the moment im using my mtb shoes, shimano spd skate shoe style. they are great as they are relatively comfortable to walk in whist still being quite stiff.
i have quite wide feet and was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction as to which brands have the widest fitting? also, are there any road bikers out there that dont ride road specific shoes on their road bike?
id love some recommendations, budget of $200 max.
thanks v much!

some brands also do a 'wide fit' for some of their shoes:
- Sidi do a 'mega'
- Giro do a 'HV' (high volume)
- Shimano do a plain and simple 'wide'
Sure there are some others.

regarding pedals, would i just buy the best i can afford? or being a new rider, is there a specific one i should go for?

R540's are fine unless you're a weight weenie. Especially seeing as the 105 5700 pedal seems to have been discontinued for the more expensive carbon version?
Do you want the light action pedal though?

the carbon 105 is still for sale on chain reaction, though its only 5g lighter than the R540!
the ultegra alloy pedal is actually lighter than the carbon 105.
i just thought that the light action would be easier to get in and out of, ive never ridden road pedals before, only mtb spd's

I use to be 30kg overweight.
I was recommended Shimano shoes but my feet were 'too fat'.
I tried the Specialized road shoes.
The $80 one comes with both road and mtb cleats. I found them great !.
Down site is as my feet got 'less fat' I had to buy a new pair.

I have fairly wide feet and Specialized suit me well.
