Brisbane Magpies

Couldn't believe it today....I got seriously swooped by a friggin crow this morning....right on top of the Toombul Rd overpass when southbound on Sandgate Rd. never known a crow to attack before. bloody thing was really trying to get at my head too...and there were cars and trucks passing closely...

And then this arvo, heading east on Zillmere Rd, just past Aspley School, some friggin upstart bird comes tearing in like a magpie...didn't connect but possibly because there was a 40kph headwind (in addition to his land speed) for him to contend with. I don't think it was a butcher bird....but about that size.

Ive been swooped by crows before. There use to be one at Packers Tannery on Boundry rd at Narangba that use to swoop at random times regardless of the time of year

Took a direct hit from this Magpie this morning, near the Wesley Hospital at Auchenflower.
Quite a small bird, but had me on the defensive.
Fortunately my helmet protected me fully.

It looks like a Butcher Bird.
I've had a few Butcher Bird hits in the last few weeks, but no Magpies. It's interesting the Butcher Bird season is still going. The Butchers are super fast too. I found waving my hand above my helmet seems to scare them off. That tactic has not been so successful with the Magpies this year.
Glad your helmet took the brunt.

Yeah I've found the butchers and another variety were swooping after the maggies stopped.
However, I've never had one strike, so in my books, they are harmless.

I'm pretty sure it was a magpie, the photo is low on resolution but it was vividly black and white at close range !
And it came back for a second swoop, which is classic magpie strategy.
But obviously must be a young one, and still has a lot to learn.
Should pick a tree further away from the Wesley covered car park, to which i made a quick retreat.
