Rear wheel slide. Too hot into the turn I guess

it looks like the rear wheel lifting under heavy front braking and then going straight ahead. ouch.

I've done that once - fortunately I made the corner without bother. I won't ever do that again.

The video is rotated horizontal. But it looks like the rear wheel lost traction (maybe going too fast on the off camber corner with worn tyres) for a second throwing his weight forward and when it gripped his body weight was already too far forward so it threw him off the bike. Sometimes you can hold it and other times it just throws you. This being the case.

My take on it is that it's the classic highside off that often catches motorcyclists.

He's under heavy braking, trying to turn. Rear tyre has very little grip and steps out.

Rear tyre then suddenly bites, rear of bike snaps back and rider goes over the front.

Very nasty one.

Motos can do it under power or braking. We only have to worry about the second method.

against my better judgment of risking a urination contest, i don't think it was a highside. i had cause to lock the rear on a fast corner recently when some numpty decided to brake mid-corner in a race while i was following him (this is a sphincter-tightening event at 50 km/h). bike tyres don't have enough outright grip to 'snap' like a motorbike tyre does and highside a rider. i think in this case he just locked up both brakes - it was the front brake which threw him over the bars. anyway, i could be wrong :)

On downhill runs in a off camber corner a bike can actually fling a rider like that all because your weight suddenly shifts. The rider wants to go in one direction while the bike wants to go in another direction. If you want to see the weight shift keep an eye on the chain and how it completely flexes when the bike straightens.

Sure they do. You don't need "alot" of grip you just need loss of grip to cause the rotation away from the line of travel and then when it regrips it will throw you. I've done it on dirt before after losing the rear.

You can see the yaw of the bike this is not a just too hard on the front.

Yep, any MTB rider will know that a sliding rear can snap back like that.

Particularly when you release the rear brake!

Dumb combo, cyclist and peds.
Could just tell this wasn't going to go well yesterday morning. I slowed right down to give way and let the walking parties pass each other. I chose not to ding because I was giving way. Probably should have rung the bell earlier.

Perhaps annoyed that the walkers decided to stop and chat instead of continuing along in an orderly fashion...? Even though they're allowed to do so.

Given the lack of bell, the best course would have been to stop along with the walkers. Squeezing past when dogs meet dogs is not really a good idea. I also find that tailgating pedestrians when they're out for a leisurely walk is not a good idea - much better to hang further back.

Def not the worst I've dealt with. I was, as a cyclist, giving way to the peds like we are meant to. By the time I worked out they were going to congregate and chat and before I squeezed through I had rung the bell a couple of times. I was tossing up wether to give way or ring the bell and have them all step out of the way. This would potentially leave little mutts in the path as the slack was taken up in the leads. I assumed wrongly that the peds I was following would continue, the single ped walking towards would pass and the ones on the side would stay. I chose wrong on several counts. Hence the dumb cyclist.

Just because a law says something can be done does not mean it should be. Too little /B in the world :(

Me, I'da backed off and hit the grass for 10m, no biggie.

I thought it was that you found the density of polo shirts in one place to be overwhelming.
