Ride For Relief - cycle in aid of Typhoon Haiyan survivors

Postby big AL » Mon Dec 02, 2013 3:47 pm

An event on Saturday, December 14 for the Melbourne cycling community to raise funds and gather food, water, clothing and other supplies/necessities to be sent to the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

Many families have been left without homes, food or clothing whilst suffering fear, pain and the loss of loved ones and belongings.

We're inviting cyclists to bring their road bikes and pedal along Beach Road (to Black Rock, Mordialloc or Frankston) in solidarity with the Filipino people.

We ask each rider to wear at least one of the colours of the Philippine Flag to show their support (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Philippines)

We are aiming to raise $5,000 and would like to encourage riders to donate to an Australian Red Cross website set up specifically for this event (http://www.redcrossfundraising.org.au/rideforrelief)

We’re also asking for donation of goods (clothes, food, medicine, etc). The goods will be sent to the Provincial Hospital in Tacloban City, the city hardest hit by the typhoon where one of the organisers nephew is a doctor working there. He was in Tacloban when the typhoon made landfall and is lucky to be alive.
