Roof top Carriers

Postby Creakyknees » Wed Dec 11, 2013 2:50 am

Hi All,
Does anyone have any experience with the Yakima Frontloader roof rack carrier?

http://www.yakima.com/shop/bike/roof/frontloader" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Also is there any benefit of a fork mounted carrier over a "wheel holder" like the frontloader?

Cheers

Yes, I've been using them for a while now. Used on 24", 26", 27", 29" and 700c bikes and all mount nice and securely. Done interstate trips using them with no issues.

I chose it over a fork mount so I don't need to remove and find somewhere else for the front wheel, also prevents compatibility issues should I end up with a thru axle MTB fork.

As a word of warning I have managed to scratch wheel decals with the plastic strap that goes over the rear wheel so if you're concerned about that it would be worth putting a cloth between the wheel and strap for protection. Also, when mounted in reverse (which I do with the centre one when carrying three bikes) the rack whistles when driving.
