To go with the excitement over the new Marathon Plus Schwalbe have a new tubeless touring tyre coming out ... only in 700c and 26" but.

Feather weight at 780 grams compared to the Marathon Plus's 1100 grams per unit.

Poked my head into a LBS recently and had the owner upon not having a tube size I wanted, tried to sell me on the virtues of his current range of thorn proof at just over a kilo each.
I asked him with a straight face if he had any tire liners to suit it......
Of a worry is he went out the back to have a look

Best to buy the Vittoria Randonneur Cross. Only available in 26x1.75 but it has excellent ride, puncture-resistance, and wear at just 590g.

Ah yes, sorry, I meant that in 26" they are only available in 1.75" width. In 700C they are available in widths from 28mm to 38mm.

The narrowest I could see was 700 x 38, might be interested if they came in 700 x 28.

If you can't find these there is still the Randonneur (slick version) with same puncture protection and wear qualities, available down to 25mm.

Tried Randonneurs once, really did not like them, they went square very quick. I'll stick to Schwable Marathon Supreme although the Almotion did look interesting, just not narrow enough for me.

Wondering if anyone has been using these. I havent' used tubeless before. I'm interested in how they go in the desert, the ability to deflate to low levels for sandy or pebbly sections and thorn puncture resistance.

Dunno, but I was just running Mondials at 30 psi on some logging roads in Canada. Bike 23kg, stuff 25kg, me 95kg. My partner was running hers at 25psi. Some seriously large and sharp gravel. Still got the chicken strips visible, no cuts or punctures. I also accidentally managed to set the 3rd fastest Strava time down Radar Hill near Tofino (out of 56). Had I realised I might have actually had a crack at the record, wasn't gonna ride back up though. So they roll well on bitumen too.

Before going too far away from the civilized world, try to change your tubeless tyres by hand. I tried tubeless on my mountainbike and found it very difficult to get them off and on and impossible to seat them without a compressor, because the edge is so tight.

That totally depends on the tire and rim combo.

I've not had an issue with Schwalbe (Racing Ralph, Nobby Nic) or Maxxis (Ikon, Ardent Race) tubeless ready tires on my Stans Arch Ex rims, Kenda (Slant Six, Nevegal) on WTB Frequency rims, but stuffed if I can get Compass Barlow Pass tires (yes they can be set up tubeless, just not marketed that way as they're updating their moulds) to seat on HED Belgium+, the side wall is just too floppy.
