Found another serial stamp near seat post,289 thus being Feb 1989. Much newer than I thought, still counts in my book as an 80s retro

Could the fork on that be replaced to put a 700c on the front or would it be best not to mess with it?

thats what I thought...., but if you did, how it would effect its ride-ability? if the top tube became horizontal the geometry would be so strange... you could get back over the pedals by reversing the seat post, then using a long stem for the bars.... just wondering..Sd wrote: would be a shame if you tried...

But they are somewhat sought-after, and lesser maintained/ equipped bikes of the same model go for 300- odd pretty readily. The 700 rims from the later models are more wanted than 27 inch. 500 might be around the top end but he should get 400 easily. It ticks a few common boxes - steel, tourer geometry, 700C, drop bars, STI, cantis, rack mounts, etc.grantw wrote:That Alpine GT must be the gold plated model...
Just saw - same seller has a penny farthing wheel that he has half built that he's selling. Whilst the Alpine GT looks good, I'm very dubious about the spoke lacing at the hub end. Is that a standard approach? A guy called Aaron on CGOAB is selling an expensive spoke threading machine, but I've never thought how one would create the inner end of spokes at home.

Seller is not good at maths - 2 gears on front & 7 (maybe at rear = "24 speed"

No. The head tube angle and steered tube angle would be all screwed. The handlebars would flop from side to side and it would be dificult / $hit to ride. Plus, your seat tube angle would be screwed as well.
I used to have a kaze, geez they were a cool bike. I sold it because it was too big for me, wjish I could have kept it!

Have been looking at this, with interest.
Then I thought "why would a bike of this vintage have Carbon forks?"
Then I looked closely at the pic of the frame (which is a little difficult, due to the distracting background)
.......is this frame bent???
