Giro d'Perth back on in 2014

Postby Sprocket » Sat Sep 14, 2013 10:51 am

This fun event is running for the second time on the 16th of March, 2014! It's going in my diary.

Email from event organisers:

Ciao! Remember the Odyssey you had in March, well it is on again - Sunday 16th March 2014.

Planning is underway, new map, new odyssey!

• new start point
• new routes,
• tweaked map format (clue stops and backlanes marked on the map, you decide your own route between them.)
• a finish location with shade for 400 +,
• lots more prizes- including best vintage bike, best décorated, ...
• and more suprizes.

We need 3 more $2000 sponsors to grow the event and promote to our active community. Contact me jedi@mrvesparazzi.com

I only send out a few newsletters a year- so check out Facebook http://www.facebook.com/girodperth" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and the website http://www.girodperth.com.au" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for more event news as it comes to hand, per favore!

Arrivederci, see you at the 2014 Giro d'Perth - the backlane bike odyssey, on Sunday 16th March 2014.

Grazia mille - Toby

I may well be working in W.A during 2014, and if I am, I'll pencil this one in!

Looking forward to this again.

As long as I'm home in time for the F1. Missed the start this year :(

Babby2 is due March 11, will probably run late if babby1 is anything to go by so looks like I'll miss out again. =[

Have been wrestling with the login & registration process this morning. Having no joy at all trying to register as a Cycling Australia (via Audax Australia) member. Have flipped an e-mail to the admins.

Anyone else been in the same boat or am I just not swearing at it enough?

My issues all sorted...

I'm not entirely sure they've got anywhere near their 1000 limit, but it'd be nice if there was a healthy turn out regardless.

Hoping to recommission my 1960s Carlton for the ride. Madly scratching together old bits and bobs. It won't be period correct, but it'll at least be mechanically correct. I'll be mostly using later, 1970s Japanese knock offs of the European 1960s bits I'd ideally use.

Entries close midnight tonight apparently - so hurry up people still dawdling!

That's not too bad, I guess.... Must admit I found it a little odd you can publicly list & browse all the participants names. Maybe I'm just not used to these sort of events though.

Really? I never noticed I did enter under a group name though.

Two clicks from the main page gives you a list of all entrants, irrespective of teams. A quick copy & paste reveals 335 people entered upto now. Not abysmal, but not exactly over flowing either. I just kind of thought with all of the good things being said about last years it might've taken off a bit more. Not sure what the turnout was in '13.

Just going by recurring surnames - looks to be a high portion family groups.

Must admit I'm not one for huge crowds anyway, but do have a bit of sympathy for the organisers.

Any chance you can sign up on the day?

I can't commit due to the aforementioned possibility of babby arriving, but there's still a chance I could make it at the last minute.
get a map, pen and seat tag at the Rego tent.
“Solo” line up alphabetical by Surname. eg: “Roberto Ricci” is “R”
“Il gruppo” Team Leaders line up alphabetical by team name. eg: “Bellisimo Tres” is “B”
300+ people trying to line up in alphabetical order? Eeep!

That'd be a be a question for the organisers, really. I had some correspondence with Toby last week re: my Cycling Australia membership insurance exemption and he replied generally within 24 hours.

Assumed OP was one of the organisers and possibly monitoring this thread. Also, I'm lazy. ;D

I had to miss it last year (out of state). But I made sure this year was pencilled in, registered weeks ago.

This is one of the few cycling events that I can realistically participate in. Watch out guys, the unicyclists will be hunting in packs!

OP? That would be me but I'm not one of the organisers, just enjoyed it last year and decided to give it a plug for this year.

a bit confused here - start somewhere in Nedlands, Finish somewhere in Perth?

I would go with the kids, not sure if they are up to cycle back to the car after the event.

Did I miss something?

Plan on getting catching train to Esplanade - ride along river/Mounts Bay Rd then up Winthrop Ave.

Figured that be the most direct and flattest route.
