Rider down - Be safe, it's got busy

Second time in a forttnight that I have had multiple riders passing me against an oncoming rider. This time it ended unpleasantly with two riders injured, hoepfully seriouslyhough one was out to it for a while.

It's quite apparent in the last week or two that lot's are dusting off their bikes. And today had an enormous lot of riders in groups large and small having a last run before the indulgences of the next few days. So, to everyone, be wary and get through the silly season without injuring either yourself or anyone else.

(For the record I have no idea of whether the group intended to pass in double file. I only know that by the time the third or fourth rider was past me they were all out of shape and dodging each others wheels and no-one able to hold a predictable line. If you are riding in a group know your riders and know your leader.)

Refreshingly, cyclists certainly know what to do when someone is down. Without direction people cover the approaches, others get on phones, first-aid credentials are stated and some form of leadership arises. Well done to all.

I just held line and speed and hoped - someone brushed an elbow or soemthing but no clip stack or other contact. Merry Xmas and avoid Boxing Day rides with all the new bikes, new riders and people guiltily working beyond capacity to atone for Christmas indulgence.

You said it - definitely silly season out there..

Lots of families and novices, and disorganised groups whose capabilities don't match reality.

Slow down and enjoy the ride !

Lots of f-wits in cars too...makes me wonder if I should be out on a bike at all right now.
Nahhhh, the roads are nice and empty in the early morning, a great time to be out. Could claim both lanes if I really wanted to.
