1m matters etc trial
Postby sumgy » Fri Jan 03, 2014 8:23 am
The trail of the new rules has NOT commenced as at 1/1 as originally proposed and are unlikely to commence for several months.
Other than the 1m rule, the rest of the recommendations are all still under discussion.
I found out this news yesterday after posting some questions n BCC, BQ and RACQ facebook pages.
It appears that many cycling groups including Cycle, AGF, and SCA appear to have been unaware of this until I advised them.
BQ was aware but it seems they have not released this information to the cycling public until yesterday when I posted on their facebook page.

Phone calls to the Qld Cycling Programs staff and further phone calls and emails from the Department of Transport And Main Roads (TMR) have confirmed my understanding and SCA'S position on the start date for the trial and the other Cycling Inquiry recommendations being implimented by the Minister and TMR, and that is that no date was ever set at all.
Scott Emerson has directed TMR to prioritise the I troduction of the Split Rule trial and I have been assured by all senior levels within TMR that the trial is well through the initial stages with regards the legal mechanics and it's ability to be as enforceable and workable as possible. The trial WILL commence no later than March 31, and quite possibly before.
Again, neither the Minister - Scott Emerson nor TMR had eever announced a date for the commencement of the trial, and anyone who suggests otherwise is mistaken.
The majority of the Qld public service are still om leave till Jan.6 and Parliament doesn't even resit until early Febuary, so how such and important and detailed piece of legislation was ever supposed to be introduced while the Sunshine State was running on a skeleton staff is beyond nearly all of us.
As to BQ supposedly knowing more thannthe rest of us regarding a delay to the new rules, that'd be a first. Given their complete ineptitude DURING the Inquiry, I wonder how they even know where their own office is located or what time they have their lunch. Additionally, BQ are also closed for business till Jan.6, so the only thing leaking there is the tearoom tap.
As to those who started all this ruckus late yesterday, I am assuming that they are keen to grab some ill-timed limelight, and will become increasingly obvious to many that this was indeed the case over coming weeks.
So in conclusion the Split Rule trial is coming and has been given priority status by the Qld Government, and no date has been set as yet for the new legislation to come into effect but it will be law no later than March 31.
No news is good news.

The comment came directly from them on that page yesterday.
I was the one that created the ruckus and the supposed idiot that posted this posted it after recognising that the 1/1 start date that they and AGF and others had been advised as the start date was now not the start date at all.
So I guess in your eyes I am the main idiot.
You did not seem to think Cycle or I were idiots last night when you shared Cycle's status. In fact you appeared concerned and vowed to find out more.
In your words "Nobody else at this stage has heard a thing. If changes were being concidered (sic) or the trial delayed we fully expect we would have been notified by one of several sources."
Maybe SCA and others should consider working together instead of for whatever stupid agenda's you all have.
Perhaps if you actually knew that the legislation was not going to be rolled out on 1/1 then you should have shared that with the people that you are supposed to be working for.
I could say much more but I will moderate myself.

And how is it that BQ are hopeless, Cycle are useless, AGF meh but SCA are super hero's.
Seriously you need to start working with these groups rather than against them.
You make your organisation look stupid.

Understood Shaun, and I would hope that this is seen as constructive critcism (but probably wont be).The 2nd Womble wrote:So you didn't bear witness to BQ's "laclustre" performances during the inquiry then, all of which - both live video broadcast and transcripted - were condemned by many, many interested viewers/readers?sumgy wrote:Check Recent Posts by Others Dave.

Nevermind.
Dave, this is not about what I think of BQ but to be honest I think that they are just as useless as most of you.
But again you are being negative toward other groups in this space and puffing out your own chest rather than doing what you should be and working TOGETHER for cyclists.
If you dont want to do that, or for some reason CANNOT do that, then you will fail.
The biggest problem that Cycling advocacy has in this state (and perhaps in the entire country is the BS agendas and complete lack of teamwork that you display.
BQ is useless and will continue to be useless until they come to the party.
Same can be said for the rest of you too.

Ok, let's talk about this. Where did such strong public supposition by Cycle or anyone at BQ land us? Here. Arguing (lazily) about a moot point. SCA didn't see fit to tell anyone there'd be no date set because nobody else was told about one either.sumgy wrote:I will have the guts to leave my posts here thanks Shaun.

Also I do not believe at all that this requires parliament to sit. The minister still runs the department which does the road rules. There is no Act that needs amendment, just road use regulations, which do not pass through parliament.
I do not believe they will meet 31 March either. They will want to give motorists a compaign, probably fork out millions to some consultants to make TV adds etc. This still has a long way to go politically once the costs start surfacing.

I am hoping that it is a trial in the usual bureaucratic style - ie a soft launch so the masses can be appeased ("it's only a trial") before quietly becoming a permanent fixture.sogood wrote:Why is it a trial? What are they not sure of that requires a trial to confirm?
IME few such trials are ever stopped
