Nup, bought it yesterday for $35, 1-2 days shipping. Just looking back there I see that today's price is $45

Website clearly says 11,000mAh, able to charge a mobile phone three and a half times over. I don't see Kogan with a typo there.find_bruce wrote:Sorry - was suggesting it may be 1,100mAh not 11,000mAh
I am equally intrigued by this one for just $39

Not to mention Kogan don't usually offer free shipping from the little I've observedil padrone wrote:Do you mean in the price? $350?

So far I'm impressed.
I need to do some experimentation to see if I can get it to charge off a dynamo hub at all.
Second experimentation will be to see if I can get the battery to add to my Macbook Airs power supply.
Yes my printer did need dusting.......
Tis done now - honest

You don't have a link by any chance do you? Ricky's link is now defaulting to a list of chargers, of which none look like yours.rifraf wrote:I'd have grabbed one of those batteries too for that price but I've just received a 23000 mAh battery the same as the one }SkOrPn--7 has been extolling the virtues of one page back.

You might remember Sturmey Archer made dynohubs, both front and back.
Well I spotted on another forum a shimano example of a rear hub dynamo whose existence I wasn't aware of.

I dont want or need one but always good to be aware of all the possible options I reckon.

before you make the leap, read the specs carefully.
The battery supposedly needs 15V to charge it which is more than the E-werk can put out.
However I've a sneaking suspicion it "might" not need that amount.
So far I've tested it on my iPhone and Blackberry phones as well as my old Compaq V2418AU laptop whose charger pumps out 18V, whilst I utilised the batteries 19V (I think) a few weeks ago.
I lost track of time but the laptop was still going a few hours later and whilst the new battery was seriously depleted, the laptops battery was still at full charge.
Its a very hungry laptop and heavy too which is why its being supplemented and eventually replaced by my new 11" Macbook Air which I'm hopeful to mate with the battery for extended battery life.

Ahh okay. I have an eye on a Minigrorilla which may come in at around the same price so might see how that plays out first.

I can vouch for the efficacy of the Minigorilla, mine has worked very well, but considering it is only a battery they are expensive when compared to the Kogan battery and rifrafs latest battery/solar charger purchase.Aushiker wrote:I have an eye on a Minigrorilla which may come in at around the same price so might see how that plays out first.

Do you mean?
Funny how the Boxing day sale is $10 dearer than when I pointed it out a couple of days ago.....
Still, its still a decent price if the spec is accurate and the shipping is still free whilst the sale is on.

.....they don't take well to bouncing in the handlebar bag while charging. The charge connection broke off I now have a fully charged batterry that cannot be recharged.il padrone wrote:Just in case anybody is thinking of buying one of those batteries from Kogan

Ah well, 'twas only $39 Might buy another and use with more discretion.
[edit] $59 now, so I bought their quite big folding solar panel instead.

Without the "Voltage Controller" inline I set the panels for maximum voltage out and saw 6.7 volts but haven't been able to repeat that figure. Might try again at midday. Each panel puts out it's own 5 volts. I whacked a variable load of 3~13 ohm and adjusted it till the voltage started to foldback from 5V. And hit 10.2 ohm at 470mA. So... about 2½ watts when it's starting to strain. The max current I pulled out was 1A and the Voltage dropped to 3.7V.
With "Voltage Controller" the output unloaded was 4.92V (near enough to 5V). It foldback with any load and at 10.2 ohm it went down to 4.32V ohms and the current was 330mA. So... 1.1 to 1.4 Watts. Max current was 950mA (AT) 2.8V. So the "voltage Controller" eats about a watt running itself and driving the "feel good" LED.
Hardly the 7 Watts in the blurb! But the solar panel industry is not the only guilty ones to inflate (or invent) figures. Look at audio amps with their PMPO, TSP, RMS....
Charging a phone I'd leave the "Voltage Controller" inline. If you want to charge a battery and it can handle between 4V to 7V then remove the "Controller"
So there ya go.
