I had a similar looking bike , and equipment in the mid 80's it was a Malvern Star - in a nice pale metallic blue heading towards purpley , was a lovely bike , sold it early 2000 in pretty much the same condition as that one , came from Cyclesport in Thornleigh

My first thought with the Shimano AX gear and Tange headset was early 80's Miyata.

Then I saw the Zeus hub. Front Shimano...hmm. What are the rims? Are the brake levers AX or some other crud (suicide brakes?!)?

Dont think it could be a Miyata. Damn nice find, either way. I've seen those cranks going on Ebay for a pretty penny, especially because of the odd size pedal threads!

Did you try VeloBase.com for date codes on parts?

EDIT: Are you a member of Bikeforums.net? You could put this into their Classic & Vintage forum and see if anyone bites. If you dont want to sign up for one post, I'll put it on for you if you like.
