My PA's email. They have been chasing my PA since as a company we were one of the larger participants last year and raised some half serious coin for the cause. I asked her to confirm it after reading this thread.dmwill wrote:Source?IncognitoMosquito wrote:23rd March 2014. There is someone busy at work and they respond to email pretty quickly.

Not sure about that. They want to come and talk face to face with me late next week about our participation in this year's event. Source? Email correspondence today. Hopefully I will be able to update you all with the real story after that.Roobar wrote:2 1/2 months out with no website and still sponsor hunting sound like it not happening

Keep in mind that the sponsor just throws in a cheque to have their name plastered around. The sponsor has no involvement in the event planning, permit applications, negotiations with main roads etc. This is all done by the event managers. And all that prep work can (and should) be done in the year leading up. The sponsor just knocks out a couple of ads and t-shirts at the last minute.
And given the shamozzle that was the excuse for organisation last year, I can hardly blame the sponsors for running a mile!

No doubt in my mind that they have a significant sponsor and the event will go ahead.

They seem to have changed the "Full Hike" course to some sort of out and back rather than starting from Mandurah:kx315 wrote:Website is up http://bupabikehike.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; looks like it is all go.
The map isn't up yet so I won't be signing up until I know what the route is.The Website wrote:The all New Full Hike course now starts & finishes in the City of Perth making it quicker and easier to access in the morning.
Distance: 80km*
Minimum Pace: 23km per hour
Start Time & Location: 6:30am at Langley Park, City of Perth
The course will incorporate a lead safety vehicle and on-course event officials who will monitor the pace of both the front and back of the Full Hike riding group.
They have also put up different starting times for the 2 mid-hikes, 7:30am for Kwinana and 9:00am for Currambine and for the 2 mini-hikes, 9:00am Bull Creek, 10:15am Stirling.
They also have a compulsory ride jersey like the Santos did last year, except in a worse colour (looks like a similar light blue to the Santos jersey with the addition of orange panels) and with limited pick-up options.

Be interesting to see how the out and back turn is managed. Given the chaos of last year, I hope it's more than a cone in the middle of the freeway!!

I am struggling to see how the out and back can work without shutting down both sides of the Freeway? Yes expensive for the 80km I'll justify it by saying its for charity I suppose!MyNameIsNoone wrote:Jeez! How much?!?!?

Good to see that the safety issues of 2013 have been addressed, even if it does take away the Mandurah drag.

The fastest mid hike riders would overtake the tail-end of the full hike but that is pretty much unavoidable. Full hike riders averaging above 30 to 35kph would probably have clear roads for the whole ride.

Jersey for the full hike, T-Shirt for the 30km (I'd hate to wear a T shirt riding).Scott_C wrote:

Urgh. I'll just say it's too small and didn't fit me.
I'm all for charity, but hate being a billboard for some company - feels like that is where the *hiked* up entry fee is going.

The jersey is included in the fee of $97.50. Given the price of jerseys I don't think that is too bad.kx315 wrote:Website is up http://bupabikehike.com.au/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; looks like it is all go.

They make it quite clear you cannot ride without it and frankly if I was a volunteer having to put up with this sort of rubbish I would be pretty PO. It is a charity ride for god's sake ... chill out and enjoy it or ride somewhere else, but hassle the volunteers, that is pretty poor formdmwill wrote:Urgh. I actually don't think it looks too bad (was not a fan of last years) and hey for charity I don't mind being a billboard for a few hours!Aushiker wrote:The jersey is included in the fee of $97.50. I am pretty keen to see the full hike map though.
