Enjoying this thread. Love that Alpinestar, remember when they first introduced it, with the radical elevated chainstays. nice
Thought I better post my lastest retro C. Brought the frame back from the U.S, still finishing off the small stuff.
First Gen Super V Raven. Getting herder to track down some early V parts now.

Hi Brettels,

I've just picked up an Avalanche but can't identify the forks. Their either Mag 21's or Early Judy's but without decals I can't seem to identify them. Keen on rebuilding them and putting on new decals but need to know which one first. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Ben

G'Day Ben.
The Mags were airsprung and the Judys either coil or elastomer.
If you can get a photo up someone may be able to add more.

All three of those forks in the photo are Judys. Mags are slimmer/thinner (both sliders and stanchions) and taper down to the dropout/fork end. They look far less "robust" than a Judy (which now look pretty spindly compared to modern 32mm+ forks).

All three are Judys...rounder legs than a Mag 10 or 21 which has a tapered leg at the dropouts.

Mmm, those were lovely riding rigs. I had a P22 (owned it, but it didn't fit me) and a Stumpy just like that.

I have the good fortune to have scanned a heap of pics from when I started racing in the Early nineties :)
Here is a link to the pics, some from National events, some from local Gold Coast events in Nerang Forest.
Hope you enjoy the pics :) https://plus.google.com/photos/10298291 ... 5899654273" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I just got back my original Dodsun FirePower 24 speed :)

From memory I purchased this in 1998 I think and it came with no suspension. I paid some serious coin bck then to have it upgraded to full Shimano STX-RC and Indy-C Rock Shox!

Nice bike. How much cheaper things are now.
I can't believe I just looked at this forum after all the hanging around on the Retro forum I usually do. I have just finished a bike so I'll get some pictures of my rigid collection up soon.
I'm afraid they all have thumbshifters...I am a a bit dogmatic that way.

You're saying that like it's a bad thing? I love them, they should never have gone but that's what the industry told riders they wanted :roll: .

Turns out I purchased the Dodsun earlier than I thought, found the receipt today from 5th April 1997 for $849.00 before I did the upgrades :)

My rigid collection. The furthest is oldest..Southern Cross clunker bought 1986 and won frst couple of mtb races in Brisbane in 1987. Then 1989 Centurion which is very original with Deore and some XT gear, under the chainstay U brake. Then GT Outpost I just finished. It weighs a ton with better gear on it than original. The 1990 Mongoose Comp is also pretty original with Mountain LX gear. And finally the Ti Morati with carbon forks. Ti frame I bought 2000. Has XT Thumbies and matching XT rear mech, mavic crossmax tubeless wheels. Its nice and light and flies uphill.

The GT with better shifters. Its even harder to find cheap old 6 speed thumbies than Deore.

The GT Outpost brings back a few memories. I had the chance to buy one back in about 2000 but stupidly went a Schwinn hybrid that was a dog if a bike. Many years of thinking I should of went the GT Outpost instead... :-) And in the end put me off cycling for a good 10 years that decision!

Went to pick this up today, looked like a good deal!
http://www.peeep.us/9487b5df" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
My first bike was a Gary Fisher Piranha that had Judy DH's. With the V brake bridge rather than canti bridge.
I broke the brake bridge where it joins the stanchion, cracked clean through.

Unfortunately these DH's broken in exactly the same place.
The rest of the bike is in alright condition, seen a lot of love. Lots of replacement parts over the years, so it's not really original.
I didn't ride it and passed on buying it. Guy was pretty disappointed and didn't know that the forks were cracked.. poor dude.

Yes very nice.
Staying in Sydney for a few weeks but couldn't bring one of my SV rides. No problem, first look in a while and ebay produced this for me. 98' Super V700 all original. $250 buy it now, delivered. sight unseen.
Though the cabling is all ar** about. Rides beaut considering it sat for awhile. Paint, tyres, rims, headshok, swingarm, drivetrain, serial numbers all good. It'll do until I get her home for a rebuild.

Hey guys,
Down at Forrest at the moment we're trying to get a few retro bikes out and about.
We do a regular ride on Thursdays, known as the "Brew Crew" funnily enough it starts from the Brewery 6pm Thursday's it has been running for three years now , its a standard ride, you rock up we ride and we don't care what you ride.
However we are trying to get up another ride at the moment called "Forrest Fishy Friday" which will start from the Forrest Country Guesthouse at about 5.30, pretty much the same deal as Thursdays, but extra Kudos for those that have a dip on a retro MTB.
