You must be mind readers.
It's a Road ride
I did it this morning.
What an awesome way to start 2014.
Did the circuit in just under an hour at 27 km/hr average.
That is faster than usual because there was not much traffic so I could just blast along waterworks rd, moggill roads etcetera. Along the way Had a chat to another bloke doing a similar loop.

Very smooth surface so it's great for a Roadie, it's also have loads of MTB tracking lead off it so it's great for that as well.

All the good rides on the north side. Cootha, nebo and Glorious. Can the south side offer anything like it! Gravatt is good considering its location, but really it pales compred to those above

Here is a Strava map of the Gap Ck. circuit, done on new yrs day. http://www.strava.com/activities/103083009

Note that as always there are variations possible, and in particular it is usually a good idea to avoid parts of Waterworks Rd and Moggill Rd.
Because much of those roads are bit hairy to ride on because of traffic, however this was not really an issue at 7-8am this public holiday morning.

There are some steep sections and so a gear ratio of 39/25 or lower is necessary in places.
Good brakes are also a requirement.

I like to think of it as 'all the good rides/climbs are in the west' 8-)

If you're doing this ride, it might also be worth doing the ends of Upper Brookfield. It's a lot more scenic and practically a downhill ride from the base of the climb (before you go up again). I usually do this bad boy from the showgrounds to the school past the climb's second roundabout at the gap and back (just before waterworks).

It takes a lot of out of you the first time you do it but it's a great training. Just watch out for the strava idiots that salmon cycle past the bends. MTBers also stop at the halfway points to go to the park. If you're doing the descent in either direction, be sure to leave plenty of room for the cars in front of you as you don't really slow down at the speed bumps. One guy I met had warped his carbon clinchers on the way back down as he wasn't ready for the traffic.

Also, I agree. Keep it secret, keep it safe.

Out of all the climbs, I like Gravatt the best because the gradient is superb. It's just not the easiest to get too from the city and back, traffic/path wise. Lots of high speed roads about.

I found Coot-tha can be dangerous at times and tends to be a short, steep and quick. There really isn't much room for traffic to pass you on the back.

Nebo is next on the list to try.

Funny that the local residents put up a long and determined fight against it being sealed.

Sealing the road has caused a dramatic increase in traffic on the road, both from cars and trucks who are over the 2 tonne limit on it. More importantly, the additional traffic brings more idiots through there who try to cross flooded roads. It's a blessing in disguise to be honest, plenty of idiots fly along there at 70km+ just because they can.

Great road, i've only ridden it a few times but enjoyed it every time.
That last climb to Brookfield rd hurts.

As said above Upper Brookfield is a good ride as well. Love it out there great scenery, roads are a little bumpy but aren't most these days lol
Here's a loop I did on New Years Days incorporating to the two
http://www.strava.com/activities/103141866

Next time I'm gonna add the other two Brookfield 'Fingers' Savages rd & Gold Creek rd

What a difference a week makes, similar circuit, similar weather, similar fairly brutal hills, but about 20 times as much traffic, even at 6.30am.

Still a good ride, but not as enjoyable as it was a week ago.

The southside has Mt Gravatt and the rest is flat...flat and boring....nothing to climb and full of cyclist hating bogans
