Is this like another strava? Or do you just update it from your garmin?

Essentially yes, but it was around before Strava and many of us use it as our primary tracking site because it tracks more types of exercise than Strava does.

Like Strava it has its own app and also can import data from Garmin & other devices. I also like the fact you can export GPX files from it so I've always got a copy on my computer should I choose to stop using that site and switch to a new one.

My cycling isn't commuting, but it is on road/cycle paths, similar traffic/experience as commuting would have hence I always list it as "cycling: transport" rather than "cycling: sport". Would it still qualify for this challenge or not?

hmmm. the rules last year is if it's a journey that replaces that my another means of transport. i.e. to the shops, to work, to the pub (TW). but a ride where you start and finish at home for no other reason but fitness doesn't count as "cycling: transport"

should be a close challenge this year hopefully...I may get tempted to crank my 3 days commuting to be 100 k's each day in order to compete :)

TW is just lulling me into a false sense of security
I have a week off at the end of jan so that will hurt me.

Cool, I'll sit out and just wait for other challenges (not that I would have been competitive anyway, but I still join them for the sake of it). Thanks for the clarification. :)

It is a challenge that keeps the "commuters" motivated I guess. Something different to the social/racer riders and the k's they do, hence why the only k's counted are ones deemed to replace the use of a vehicle. Majority in this challenge are riding to and from work but you are also able to add k's done riding to the shop or appointment if using a bike instead of a vehicle.

So provided your weekly shopping run is in the next state, you'll be right up there with Gretaboy and Jason.

I would agree on not counting the riding with the wife. :) Thats exercise, not an actual commute for yourself. If you worked in the same building location and rode that way then yes to inclusion but heading home..nah

But what if it's poohkies' husbandly duty to escort his wife to her place of toil to ensure her safety? Surely then it's a commute

Just a thought....as you know I have a relaxed view of the challenge ... your challenge this year, your rules :)

I always seem to have a brownie points deficit because the challenge encourages me to spend more time on the bike :?

I'm in - hoping to do about 6000km this year - and get a little fitter in the process. finished 6th last year - it would be nice to finish in the top ten again (but aim at the top 5).

First day back at work today and have already setup a slightly longer ride home as there is a new path I want to check out.

As always with the debate above - anything you think is a commute is Ok with me - there is no sheep station on it it's just fun; or it was for me last year.
Not fast, no style, but still get there.
