After increasing my distance by 30% last year I think it will be a much smaller rise to 15,000km this year (14,096km in 2013).

If you can manage 1000km a month then that is already 12000km for the year. If we break it down into weeks then that is 231km a week, which is pretty achievable.

I want to get 300km a week consistently this year. So I am hoping to get more. We'll see how it goes.

Probably unlike most I think I'll try and do less this year as last 3 yrs have been 21K, 26K and 29K. But it has become a bit OCDish, riding so many hrs each day.

So this year I'll aim for about 25,000kms, but along with the climbing challenge, aim for 1% elevation gain with 250km

Not having the watch won't stop me from riding/training but I cbf keeping track of different bikes etc so I'm only counting strava km.
You could also use the strava app on a smart phone.

Yes I have a family; I have wilier and an avanti and a giant and a kona and a mongoose and... j/k :)

I've been in a groove for a few years which involves going to bed instead of watching TV or drinking, then getting up insanely early. So there's room for 3-4 hrs on the bike each morning before work. Not going riding takes some effort, and days it's pissing down I'm left at a loose end... well I was before a joined a 24 hr gym to waste a few hrs at. Yeah, I'm single, just no room for that

True but that would be emergencies only, my phone isn't that hot and the Strava app tends to straight-line a lot of sections and tells me I've ridden across water and stuff. I think it ends up about 10% short of the true distance on most rides.

I'm up on my target of 200km a week so far, edging slowly ahead. Need to build a bit of a buffer so I'm not chasing km and falling behind.

Has everyone in the 10K Plus Club heard the tragic news about Gretaboy?
It's in the commuting thread... Really distressing... Thinking of him and his family,

That's huge kilometres! 29K in a YEAR???

I'm at 1282.5km on Strava so far (according to the Prove It challenge ACF list) and 5th on that leaderboard, so if I can keep those kilometres up I'll hit over 15,000km. It's too early to say what I'll get.

Nothing like cracked carbon splintering all throughout the cassette and chain. Hence why its so dirty.

When I commute to work I get up at 4. So early starts are not really an issue for me. The problem is my wife is a very light sleeper. The slightest noise and shes awake and cant get back to sleep. A tired wife is not much fun.

Luckly I work shifts, 4 on 4 off and I get to ride during my off days whilst the kids are at school. Unfortunately there is always other things that need to be done as well.

Strained my back MTB'ing on a hire bike - it'll be 2 days off the bike and a heap of anti-inflamms, heat and stretching.

Yeah, I did pop over 30,000kms on an annual rolling average basis for a while there last year. I guess for me it's a pretty kind of constant thing. Summer months tend to be close to 3000kms (at 2400 odd on the prove-it challenge at the mo), and in winter it drops below 2000. But it is pretty solid and habitual - just been riding 2- 3 hrs each morning for many years so it is what I do. Mind you I'm not particularly fast up hills, and I don't really do any racing outside of the odd 100km mtb thing. Just like riding around in the mornings :)

Ouch, that's no good. I've had those back problems a few weeks back. It's the worst thing.
anttismo wrote:Just like riding around in the mornings :)
Well whatever it is, you are a machine! :D Awesome - I take my hate off to you. Much respect. 8)

I've almost cranked up 1600km for the month (1598.8), with a 106.5km ride today, 125km yesterday (two rides) and 75km on Saturday. I'm having fun doing this. I'm trying to structure in things I need to focus on, otherwise there just isn't enough time to do everything on the bike I want to do.

One of my goals for the year was to have more consistency. I am not sure this month is a good start. Whilst I've done over 1500km, I had 12 days in the month with no riding - the first 9 days 'cos I was lazy, 1 day of rain up at Bright and then 2 days with back problems.
More work to be done on this consistency thing, methinks!
Andrew
