Who cleans chains ???






I've been running the zero-clean option for the past 19,000kms. I have just run on the original factory lube, then wiped it down and re-lubed when needed with Purple Extreme - generally about every 600-1000kms. This has kept 3 chains running happily in rotation and they have always stayed remarkably clean and always smooth running rain, hail, or shine. The third chain is about to be swapped on for the final time, hopefully taking us to ~23,000kms at which point I shall install a completely new drivetrain - going to go with a Hebie Chainglider for even greater cleanliness and drivetrain life.




I reckon just short of 8,000kms per chain is a pretty good lifespan, especially with no chain cleaning at all

11,325 km average with cleaning ... guess one has to decided how much extra the 3,000 km is worth in cleaning time
