I kicked off my official 'training' with a few runs of the North-South track in Tassie over the holidays... now planning lots of road Km to get some vestige of fitness
@trailgumby, I'm reserving you a spot in next year's team

I trained over the holidays, but haven't for the last 2 weeks - commuting only. I'll be training again hopefully as of next week until race time, but that doesn't necessarily mean that I'll either be particularly faster than you, or that I'd care even if I was a lot faster.Mapomatic wrote:What amount of training are people putting in? Between fixing up a few properties and a toddler, I've got plenty of excuses why bike time has been low recently.

Made it out for a 50 km road ride on Sunday, aiming to be doing 150 a week.
How long are your commutes?

Same as yours, but both destinations are on ridge tops, which means its uphill both ways. As of next week I'll be back to a required 30km monday night roundtrip and thursday/sunday training rides. The weekly will be back up around 200 then.Mapomatic wrote:I've been commuting, but that's only 4km each way

While I think of it, can also pre-order tshirts with the team booking ($30) - if anyone's keen let me know and I'll add to the system.

Looks good, taking in most of the classics though a bit of a shame to leave out the Far East... I guess there's always Sunday afternoon

Gears are good (new cassette and fairly new cables)
Seatpost / seat has a few noises (creaking)
Front fork, well... seen better days
Discs - new and working well
Wheels - new and fine
Tyres - fairly new - any tips for tyre pressure
Leadup training is going well although no decent time on the MTB, mainly road and trainer.
Looking forward to meeting the team and having a good ride.

Stuck my bike in last week for servicing, will have new cassette, chain, front deraileur, cables etc. I also have a noise issue, which they are checking. I've looked it over several times for weld cracks, and the whole crankset was changed last service, and I'm getting them to check the rear axle, and I'll tighten the saddle mount when I get it back.AUbicycles wrote:On my 12 year old MTB:

I usually run ~45psi with tubes in highland conditions (ie three ring circus, highland fling). There is less open firetrail from what I can see in this one, so I'll probably try 40 for my first lap and 35 for subsequent laps if 40 seems to lack grip. I used a racing ralph on the front last time (can't remember type), and it had a lot more grip than other tires I've used (previously using maxxis Rendez and Larsen, since they are relatively fast rollers for open firetrails). Less than 35 for me would probably require tubeless, but depends on your weight. I don't like tubeless on a bike that is also used for commuting.

If not, for a rider of your weight (assuming low-mid 70kg) I would go 35psi max on the rear, 30-32 on the front. The trail is not techy like Manly Dam. While punctures are still a possibility (see a few riders dotted around the track at different times) it is uncommon. You had a nobby nic on the front from memory? Run it in reverse to the recommended direction.
Tape a spare tube and CO2 to the seat tube, put your tyre levers and multitool in a jersey pocket and leave the Camelbak at the campsite. All the quick guys use bottles, and I found it does make a difference. Much more enjoyable riding at race pace.
Only a few days to go! Gutted I won't be there. Jealous!
Can't believe they're leaving out Far East! That was the highlight for me from last year. The Front Nine, Big Wednesday were awesome. I'm guessing they'll have something even better in store.

Got the C02 and will check the tyre - I remember giving it some thought (rolling resistance verses grip).
Will try and get some video for you.

Sounds like you're up with the latest trends Christopher - your seatpost is converting itself to a dropper and the fork has variable travel! Hang onto the 26" wheels and they'll be the latest thing in about 18 months
I gave the brakes a bleed over the weekend and expunged any hint of spongyness... but just when I thought I'd finished my jobs list, now I have to switch the direction of my front tyre...
@trailgumby, we still have an opening for team manager/masseur if you don't want to miss out on all the action

Thanks for this tip - I'd really lost confidence since installing the NN as it would wash out without warning... much more easily than the Ralph it replaced. Reversing the direction has improved it out of sight... Also I now know that I need to top up the sealanttrailgumby wrote:You had a nobby nic on the front from memory?
