Sydney 2 CAMberra
Postby hannos » Tue Nov 12, 2013 8:32 pm
In 2014 I shall be participating in the Sydney2CAMberra charity ride.
This is an event to raise funds for Stillbirth and SIDS related deaths. Whilst I haven't lost a child to either of these I have still been affected by it.
21 years ago my best friend's daughter was stillborn. While there wasn't a lot I could do at the time (except be there for him) now he has asked me to ride with him in 2014.
I ask anyone who is willing to please donate to the cause.
All donations are tax deductible and a receipt will be sent automatically.
Thanks
Sean Hannigan
Thanks Mike and the other mods for allowing me to post this.

From the Sydney 2 CAMberra page:
Please help me raise funds for this great cause. The Sydney 2 CAMberra Charity Ride was created after a young Sydney couple lost their son Cameron through stillbirth. The tragic event heavily impacted their life and touched many of their family members and friends, here is their story.
In recognition of Cameron, the Ride aims to raise significant funds, awareness and support of families affected by stillbirth and SIDS, all funds raised will be donated to the Stillbirth Foundation Australia and SIDS and Kids NSW & VICTORIA on behalf of the Sydney 2 CAMberra participants, supporters and volunteers.

Please donate to assist in this great cause.Six babies are delivered stillborn every day in Australia; and for every baby who dies of SIDS, 30 are stillborn. These figures are staggering. It is disturbing that, in an age of enormous technical and medical advances, the death rate of stillborn babies is not declining nor well understood. The Stillbirth Foundation Australia has been established to encourage and fund vital research into understanding the causes of stillbirth and to ultimately prevent this tragedy.

Help me help them achieve their goals! What is stillbirth?
Stillbirth is when a baby dies whilst inside its mother and can occur at anytime from 20 weeks until immediately before birth.
6 babies are delivered stillborn every day in Australia
In Australia, each year, over 2000 babies are stillborn and this number has remained steady for the past two decades. It is disturbing that, in an age of enormous technical and medical advances, the death rate of stillborn babies is not declining nor well understood. The Stillbirth Foundation Australia has been established to encourage and fund research to ensure that the stillbirth rate begins to decline.

I've registered in support of a bloke from work (who I haven't actually met...yet!).
My 2nd son is very lucky to be with us. My wife had a routine checkup at 34 weeks only to discover the cord was around the young fellas neck twice and his heart rate was super low. Needless to say that if they hadn't got him out that night it would have been a very sad story.
Anyway, looking forward to the ride to support a great cause!

Since the festive season is upon us and it's a time for giving, how about you spare some small change for Sids and Kids by sponsoring me in the Sydney 2 CAMberra ride by clicking the following link:In Australia each year over 3,500 families experience the sudden and unexpected death of a baby or child, either through stillbirth or during the first month of life, from sudden unexpected death in infancy (SIDS or fatal sleeping accidents), SUDC (sudden unexpected death in childhood) or accident.

Here's a challenge to other forum members - i will personally match every dollar donated on here up to the total number of km's covered. Lets call it 300 km's. There's $25 in the kitty so far.
Im happy to take challenges and work requests into any pledged support funds!

For those that don't know this is a ride to support families touched by stillbirth & SIDS.
The cost of a coffee can make a difference to those affected so please support me and the cause by donating at the link below:
https://sydney2camberra2014.everydayhero.com/au/hannos" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
All donations are tax deductible and I don't see a cent of the money raised. It all goes to Stillbirth Foundation Australia and SIDS and Kids NSW & VICTORIA.

In total $174,374.49 was raised for SIDS & KIDS NSW and VIC and Stillbirth Foundation, about $50,000 more than they were hoping for!
Thank you to those that sponsored me (or anyone else that participated).
My Day 1 strava
Unfortunately I succumbed to an illness I was suffering a few days before this so didn't manage to ride the second day into Canberra.
Maybe next year!
